I love baking and although I have not had huge success with my fondant creations being a bit of an artistic novice it is something I enjoy. I usually make my childrens cakes by their requests and it is usually something that requires some modelling with fondant so a kit like this is absolutely perfect. I loved the fact that it included three colours, there are some places you can buy different coloured fondants from but generally from the supermarket you can only buy white and adding colour to white fondant is a messy and frustrating task.

Having the three colours ready to go was great and having red white and green at xmas time was perfect! With the kids I made some cupcakes and some xmas shortbread and then we used the ready to roll icing to decorate them. We tried some flat designs using cutters as well as using the icing like playdough as my 5 year old put it to make some 3dimensional objects to sit atop the cupcakes. We made green xmas trees with red and white baubles which was very effective and fun to do! Such a great way to get the kids involved in something that is easy to use.

The icing rolled out well and although in this heat you want to work fast to avoid it getting too sticky it holds well and I imagine at a colder time of the year would soften a lot less quickly. We were careful not to overwork the icing in the heat with our hands as it did get soft and harder to work with. I found it easier for me to roll it flat and cut shapes in alayered design to top our shortbread cookies than modelling objects but both are easily done.

A great product that I would definitely buy and would love to see what other colours are available with birthdays coming up in February for my children this will be a great product to use for cake decorating and I will be keeping an eye out in my local supermarkets to see who is stocking it!

I was so excited when I saw this Dr Oetker Ready to Roll icing. Decorating the Christmas cake at Christmas is one of my kids favourite Christmas traditions and we have a lot of fun. one of the things I don't like though is having to try to get the fondant the right shade of red and the green the right green and then having to ensure I save enough from the white cake cover to be able to do the dying and make the decorations. This product seems sent from the gods!

The kids were even more excited than I was when they saw this. Inside the box were these equal sized tubes wrapped in foil. One white, one red and one green.. The shades of colour are really deep and true which can be difficult to achieve. The consistency was a little sticky but with icing sugar it is easy to get the consistency needed. My girls also created purple by mixing the red and green and by mixing in the white could create lighter shades of the colours also. I can't get over the perfectness of this product for Christmas and just for cake decorating in general. Cost wise I would more than happily pay $4.50 for this. I have to check but if this comes in different colours then I think I have a great time saving cake decorating product. I love that the tubes are a good size so there isn't any waste. This is definitely a 10/10 from me and if you enjoy using fondant or want an easy no fuss product to try then this is definitely for you.

Ever since I can remember I have always been surrounded by people who have a passion for baking. My nana was fabulous at making 'slugs' and I remember the icing was absolutely delicious, my dad makes wonderful chocolate chip cookies and butterscotch slice, and mum with her scrumptious lemon meringue pie. My passion for baking didn't really begin until I left home and bought my own house, my main things I like to bake are cookies and cupcakes.

While browsing KIWIreviews I noticed the Dr. Oetker Ready to Roll Icing Inspirations was available to request. I haven't had much experience using this kind of icing before so requested the product to see if I would like it or not. I really liked the fact that the box came with three colours inside - red, white and green. When I unpacked the contents of my review box I was thrilled to see I was lucky enough to be selected to review the icing, my children instantly convinced me that I had to make them a turtle like on the box.

I got to work one morning and made some cupcakes, once baked I left them to cool and decided to attempt the turtle. Each colour of the icing was wrapped separately in foil for freshness. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy the icing was to knead softer. I found that with the instructions it was quite simple to make the turtle and I used icing pens to decorate it, then popped in the cupboard to harden. I also attempted to make a dinosaur, some little flowers, stars and hearts using cookie cutters. I found that while using it you needed to make sure your hands were dry or else the colour goes onto your hands. When it came time to taste the icing it was delicious and was not too sweet.

I will be using this icing again as it is fabulous value for money, easy to work with and tastes delicious. Do not be fooled by the size of the box because you get plenty to use.

I love trying Dr Oetker baking goodies, they always seem to be just a bit different to what is already on the market and very well priced to just give them a go. I thought I would let Miss 6 and Miss 2 try them out first. They were a bit wary at first (mum's letting us play with our food?!) as I explained to them it is a little bit like playing dough except you can eat it. Cue very excited girls!! Of course, they had to take a little nibble each first. Miss 2 kept taking more nibbles, but Miss 6 was ready to mould the icing into shapes. It was very easy for both of them to knead the icing (once I easily explained what that meant), as it wasn't overly hard to start with. We made sure our boards were dusted with icing sugar, and often added extra onto the icing itself and very seldom did it stick to their hands.

Not being very observant at first, when I opened the first packet and found green, I wondered how was I to know which colour it was that I needed. Wasn't until I opened up the second pack that I realised the colour was actually printed on the foil...oops! Now noted, and very helpful if you didn't need to open all packets for that one colour. Very easy to just take off how much you needed. I then left the rest in the foil packaging still, but then put it into a ziplock bag to stay fresh. It does say on the box to wrap in plastic to prevent it drying out, but I prefer bags so will see if they work as well as plastic is stated to in a few days time.

A slight, sweet smell from the icings made it very easy to work with as you aren't overcome with an aroma which becomes too unbearable. The taste is also subtle, and I felt it wouldn't take away from any of the baked goods it would accompany. I used it as a learning tool also for both girls. Miss 2 with 3 colours for her (white, green and red) and for Miss 6, learning what 2 colours mixed and kneaded together would make. I would love to see this in a pack with primary colours to take that learning space further, and make learning fun!

Like all the other Dr Oetker products I have tried so far (Easy Chocolate melting chocolate, the Cupcake Centres and the Royal Icing), this one was very easy to use. I love that all their products are this wonderful mint coloured packaging, so it is very easy to spot all Dr Oetker products on the shelf. I would love to have more of these products on hand in my pantry!

When my daughter was first born I was really excited that it meant each year I would be able to make and decorate her a special birthday cake of whatever she wa meant to at the time, for the first 2 years I had searched the internet tirelessly looking for the perfect cake to make, which each of these times resulting in me needing to use fondant icing, however me and fondant just seemed to clash and I never had any luck with using the stuff it would become to sticky, or to dry otherwise as soon as I would attempt to lift it over an iced cake it would break apart creating a huge mess, needless to say myself and fondant had a bit of a love hate relationship which ended there, with me switching to buttercream for the past 2 years. Dr. Oetker is a brand of fondant I hadn't before used, but having used other products of there's I decided that it was a brand of fondant worth trying out while I had the opportunity to do so, and i'm very glad that I did.

The packaging for the fondant was bright, fun and attractive with examples of what could be done using the fondant, Miss 4 was most excited by the turtle image and so this is exactly what she set out to do when the time came. When you open the packaging there are 3 separate foil wrapped packages inside each one containing a different coloured fondant red, white and green. My initial thought upon seeing these colours was that this was aimed for Christmas which was perfect as Christmas was nearing us and I could think of some fun Christmas ideas for this.

Following the directions on the back of the packaging Miss 4 and I got to work at creating some Christmas shapes such as christmas trees, stars and even a reindeer, and of course a turtle. We kneaded the icing on the kitchen bench which we had dusted with icing sugar until it was soft and pliable and Miss 4 commented that it felt like playdough, then using both our hands and a variety of different cookie cutters and punches we made our designs which we later used to decorate cupcakes that had been iced firstly with buttercream, we had no problem with the icing sticking together and it was such a fun activity for us both to do.

I am absolutely impressed by the quality, and taste of this fondant. It was so simple to use and work with no issues with it cracking, sticking, ripping or tearing, with Miss 4 turning the big 5 in 2 months time I am no longer scared to use fondant on a cake if it is what she chooses as I have found the perfect brand to use, I look forward to seeing what other colours you have available Dr. Oetker.

I have vivid memories of my grandmothers making and decorating wedding cakes and doing it all from scratch. Now I'm not as creative but when I saw this up for review I thought it might be interesting to see what can be done and I have a sweet tooth and I absolutely love fondant.

I adore the cute picture on the front of the box and it is a great idea to have the instructions on how to make the turtle. I had a read of the instructions and noticed that it said it was just like playdough and thought that it would be incredibly easy as I work with playdough almost every day. I offered for the kids to have a chance to unleash their creative sides as well and they thought it was great, they loved the bright colours and told me that it tasted really yummy. I opened the green, I did struggle a bit with the foil bag but with long nails I had it open in no time, just a pity about the mess. I found the fondant to be incredibly sticky, it stuck to my fingers and I had only taken it out of the bag. I had a closer read of the instructions (since playdough is not sticky at all) and thought that I would try dusting the table with some icing sugar for the red. I again struggled with the foil bag and when open I found it sticky but using the icing sugar did help. I had visions of the red turning pink as the icing sugar stuck to the fondant but after a lot of playing it came red again and sticky again. So far I'm not impressed with this product at all but still want to give it a fair go. With the white I found it not sticky and really easy to roll out with a rolling pin, which made my sons ask if they were allowed to using the rolling pin on theirs.

I must admit that I had tasted some before it even made it to the creative stage as I was curious about what it would taste like, I enjoyed a small taste of each but when I ate it afterwards (I ate some immediately and left some to get hard) I found that the green had a funny taste almost like it was just past its use by date (a little stale) but the red and the white were nice. I really liked the colours and that using this product means not having to try and colour the fondant myself. I left the rest of my creation to get hard but found that it never did, it did hold its shape but it was still rather soft when I went to eat it.

I will still be trying to unleash my creative side but unfortunately not with this product as it was sticky to handle and didn't get hard even when left and I'm not sure why the green had such a funny taste.

I have always been jealous of the fantastic birthday cakes that people post on Facebook. I have never been brave enough to try using fondant icing and one of the things that put me off was having to buy large quantities of each colour I wanted. When KIWIreviews had Dr Oetker Ready to Roll Icing Inspirations available to review I took this as my chance to try creating with fondant. The box came with three 125g packs of fondant. The colours were red, white and green, just perfect for Christmas.

The box showed several different things you could make using these colours as well as step by step instructions to make your own turtle. This gave me hope that I could make something half decent. Since my daughter wanted to take cupcakes to her Guides Christmas party I thought this was my chance to use the icing. I used a circle cookie cutter to create a red base for the icing. I then used tiny star cutters (designed for fondant) to create tiny green Christmas trees. I then stuck a toothpick through the trees to help it stay together.

I found the fondant very easy to use even in the muggy weather. My girls happily ate the scraps of icing and declared it tasted delicious. I am also happy to report that the cupcakes were the first food to disappear from the party table and everyone ate the icing.

Since making the cupcakes I have bought another packet of the icing. I couldn't find the same colours but have one with yellow, red and black. This is going to be an activity for the kids during the school holidays and I know I will be having a play too. This product has conquered my fear of fondant and I am looking forward to producing a cake to be proud of for my daughter's birthday next month.

I have friends who turn up to various functions showing off the most amazing cupcakes with icing perfect and designs galore and I sit there thinking 'how the hell do you do it'. I have to admit I am a little jealous when it comes to these crafty people - whenever I have even half attempted to create a masterpiece it turns out a disaster and I usually 'blame' my girls for it. Even just getting plain icing to look semi edible escapes me - so when I saw this product I knew I had to try it!

I imagined a Christmas table with my creations all over it, but when it came to the day we had more than enough on the table and it got pushed to the side. I kept thinking what should I make to blow everyone's mind and I kept coming up with a blank. Then I turned the packet over and was met with the cutest Turtle in the world - I adore Turtles and so I had my chosen subject. Unfortunately, my eight year old daughter (who turns nine tomorrow eeekkkkk) had another idea up her sleeve and when I returned from work today she had arranged a picnic to help gain one of her Brownies Badges and she had used these to surprise us with the raisin biscuit. Hubby had of course helped and apparently they had a ball making all sorts of decorations but then opted to go with the rather boring, but fitting Christmas theme.

Now it goes to show how simple this product is and that it can be basically used by anyone. They said it was just like playing with PlayDoh and they still have more than enough to create fancy cupcakes when they return to school. One thing we have found though, it would of been nice to have resealable bags so that it does not dry out - instead we have put them in zip lock bags to play with in a couple of weeks.

When I was presented with my biscuit I was blown away by how vibrant the colours were. It was soft and it covered the biscuit well. Even my six year old had helped create her own biscuit and they were both so proud of themselves. The biscuit they used was raisin and I do not recommend that in future as it did kind of detract from the taste of the icing, so I took mine off and ate by itself. I have to admit it was so yummy, smooth and delicious, something I could happily eat again. I now feel like I can semi look professional at the next function and I will definitely be buying this product again!

I had such good intentions when I went to review this product. I had organised three colleagues to help me and had bought a pack of plain cupcakes - the idea, of course, being to ice the cakes in seasonal colours to make a festive centrepiece for the table. Alas for my perfect plans. I had reckoned without these three: all are teachers (two primary and one kindergarten) and they all have black belts in Playdough. I managed to ice just two cakes before they took over and started being creative.

The problem started with the packaging. It was really hard to open as there was no starter slit so we had to resort to scissors. The label stated clearly that you could use the product to ice cakes. Or make designer critters. This was their signal to start with the craft work, and make helpful suggestions as they looked at each others' work. Not being an artistic type, I stuck to making a snowman - but even my efforts there caused quite a lot of amusement and rude comments.

I decide to go with the flow. After all, they had left me no choice. They kept making comments about how much fun it was, and how their students would love to do this as a rainy-day activity. As a bonus, they could then eat their creations. The icing did not have much flavour, but as it is intended as a decoration that hardly matters. I did notice that our fingers were becoming stained from the food colouring so if children are working with it, it might pay to ensure they have old clothes on.

From the two cupcakes I did manage to finish, I could tell that this product would be most effective used as an icing. It covered the cupcakes with a smooth layer of colour with none of the lumps and bumps you get from home-made icing. I was pleased with the professional finish and glossy appearance. With a little more time, I could have added some detail using another colour. For one moment, I almost regretted inviting other people to help with the review!

As instructed, we wrapped the leftover icing tightly to store for next time. This made sense as the product is designed to harden once it is rolled into shape. We had used all the white - rather, the Black Belts had - but there was still some red and green to use up on another occasion. I might just keep that for myself

During cooking the grains swell and absorb unusually large amounts of liquid and flavour. Stirring also gently knocks the rice grains together, releasing the surface starch on each grain. This adds to the creamy consistency of the dish, perfect for an authentic risotto.
