Product reviews...
Donovan Bixley is an amazingly talented children's illustrator, my daughter has his 'Looky Book' and even though we have had it for a while it is one of those books which she justs seems to be able to sit down with for ages again and again without it getting old or boring, there is always something new to see and it always keeps her entertained. When I saw that 'The Christmas Looky Book' was coming out I was pretty excited as I knew this would be a book we would need to get, so I was feeling pretty lucky when I got given it to review, Miss 4 was even happier when she saw it in our box of review goodies!
Did The christmas Looky Book live up to the standards of the original Looky Book? ABSOLUTELY!!! The book consisted of 11 different puzzles, all which were different and unique from one another, but with the same theme of 'Christmas' all along. Throughout each of the pages there was a Santa hiding which my daughter made it her job to find, infact before we even got to reading the book and completing each page she decided first of all finding each of the Santa's was what needed to be done, and I can honestly say that this kept her busy for an hour as some Santa's were very well hidden!
The illustrations were bright, fun and full of excitement, throughout each one there was so much to see and find and lot's to laugh out even 2 weeks on my daughter, partner and I still sit down and find new things such as hidden faces in the rivers and pineapples flying through the air to giggle about. Each of the pages has a little bit of a story about what is happening in the picture followed by what the puzzle is for the page, there is allsorts to do from spot the differences, to spot the odd one out and matching people with their presents, some pages take a lot longer than others to complete but that's all part of the fun!
I have really loved how this book makes learning fun for miss 4 as she is off to school next year and I'm sure with that means she will be doing puzzles every now and again such as these so this is a valuable learning tool for her to have, it has been great for encouraging her counting, thinking, reasoning and explanations as I ask her questions about why she feels certain ways about aspects of the book! She has taken this book to daycare to share with her friends who also have loved it and I have seen them laughing together as they find funny things such as trees shaped as Kiwi's and kids with no clothes on!
I totally recommend this book and also the original Looky Book to all, this one in particular would make a wonderful addition to a child's 'Night Before Christmas Box' and would provide them hours of fun in the lead up to Christmas morning, buy this book and you won't be disappointed it's great fun for both children and adults.

Six taniwha, all looking at me, sing "Beddy-bye time in the bubbly-white sea."
It's almost bedtime and a young child counts objects, including kereru, taniwha, kea, and sheep. This is a playful counting story that mixes the familiar bathtime to bedtime routine with a smattering of moonlit magic.
Lily Uivel's whimsical illustrations demonstrate a combination of Pakeha and Maori art traditions, reinforcing the recognisably New Zealand setting of the story.
