Peri Peri chicken!!! As soon as I heard the name of these hotdogs I immediately thought of Nandos Chicken which is one of my families favourite restaurants to eat out at, so I was pretty sure that these were going to be up there as one of my favourite flavours of the Howler Hotdogs range, as long as they weren't to spicy!

I cooked these up in the oven one night for dinner for my partner, Miss 4, my brother in law and myself to have with a side of wedges with melted cheese, bacon and sour cream. For these hot dogs we decided to try out some mild sweet chilli sauce on them as we thought that this sounded like the best option for the flavour of these hot dogs, after 15 minutes in the oven the hot dogs were ready and smelling divine we couldn't wait to try these out!

Like all of the other hotdogs I have tried these cooked up perfectly with crisp, golden batter which was cooked through just right, with no ewwy, gooey bits of batter that had been left uncooked, and the sausage inside was piping hot! Biting into my hotdog for the first time I was quite surprised to see lots of little red pieces inside the sausage of what appeared to be either capsicum or chilli (i'm unsure as the spices aren't individually listed on the packaging), I continued to take another bite of my hotdog but after a couple of bites of this it got to spicy for me and I couldn't continue to eat it and had to take a break, my partner doesn't like spicy foods so I was quite surprised that he could continue to eat his, telling me that it wasn't spicy! Miss 4 however didn't like hers, even with copious amounts of sauce slathered over it and my brother in law loved it, saying it was the best hot dog ever, he loved the spice and the overall taste and finished off Miss 4's as well as his own.

This hotdog is probably more suited to adults rather than children and isn't a flavour i'd personally go out of my way for! However if you like chicken, Nandos or spicy foods this could be just what you need to try! As I love chicken and chicken sausages however I would absolutely love to see the company make a hot dog that contains either a plain chicken sausage or perhaps a chicken sausage with cheese as I believe these are flavours I would just love to eat.

My husband and I are big fans of Nandos and their chicken with peri peri sauce we have also had Howler Hotdogs in the past so I was pretty sure Howler's Peri Peri Chicken Hotdogs would be a hit with us. The box claimed they were mild so I thought I would give them to Miss 7 and Miss 9 to try too. I was the only one that knew what variety the hotdogs were.

These hotdogs are so convenient. I rushed in the door from picking them and other review goodies up and realised the time. The kids were hungry and I had promised that I would cook tonight. I put the oven on to preheat while I grabbed the washing off the line. I put the hotdogs in a baking dish with some oven chips and threw that in the oven. I turned the hotdogs over after 10 minutes as instructed and gave them another 8 minutes while I continued with my other chores. I served the chips and hotdogs on a platter with bowls of tomato sauce and aioli.

The kids were very excited and grabbed a hotdog each. Unfortunately the hotdogs were still too hot for us to eat but after 5 minutes they were perfect. Miss 9 loved it and had eaten half of hers before I revealed what flavour they were. The girls didn't know what peri peri was but discovered there were red flecks in their hot dogs so stopped eating. My husband commented that he couldn't taste the peri peri. I could taste the peri peri but found it was extremley mild and gave a nice hint of flavour rather than any heat.

It is a hotdog that my husband and I would happily buy for ourselves and was probably the favourie of all the Howler varieties for both of us. It is so convenient to have them in the freezer for rushed evenings.

Hot dogs are awesome and peri peri chicken is awesome so really it seemed that these hotdogs could not go wrong! I cooked these up using the rather unhealthier option of a deep fryer but they can also be cooked in the oven making them quite a healthy "junk food" option for the family. I served them up with tomato sauce and of course hot chips to make a real at home junk food night.

As with the other Howler Hotdogs, these have quite a bit of substance to them and are rather meaty, quite different to the local takeaway and setting them apart as a much better quality product. The batter that they are wrapped in is also quite substantial and tasty making them quite a filling hotdog. Taste wise they are quite mild which would make them fine for children to eat if you have kids who don't like anything too spicy. I personally would have liked a little more kick to them but still found them rather nice. My mother also tried them as well as one of the mini hot dogs and while she liked them both, for adult tastes, she much preferred the peri peri chicken.

Assuming they are reasonably priced, then these are a product I would absolutely buy again and would be well worth paying extra in any event, for a much nice product than what you get at the local takeaways. Definite love from me for these!

I had been told by a friend that this variety was quite mild, with just a little extra kick provided by the spices. Whether periperi was the only hot spice included was not clear as the contents list did not specify - it just read "spices" - but I assume from the appearance of the sausage inner that the periperi referred to in the product name was certainly included as there were tiny red spots visible throughout the meat. These spots were in no way hot, however, and just added to the general mild heat of the product as a whole.

The batter was not at all greasy; it had the texture of a scone rather than a traditional deep-fried coating, and because it was baked rather than fried it had to be better for you healthwise. The three adults all enjoyed this flavour; the children were less keen, preferring more traditional and less highly spiced varieties of hot dog. I guess it is an age thing. One of the children took several bites before deciding she really did not like it and giving the rest of her share to her father. The other child took one tentative bite and refused to eat any more. So next time I buy them, I will get a pack of plain hotdogs as well so the adults can enjoy the spicy version and the children won't starve!

Because we found they were not too hot, and would actually have preferred a little more spice, we served them with additional sweet chilli sauce and a plain salad with grated cheese. And although the hot dogs were not very spicy, they were extremely filling, so we did not want much other food with them. The salad was ideal as it balanced the meal while offering a foil to the denser meat and its batter coating.

In terms of value for money, the adults would have comfortably managed two each. Healthwise they are also a good choice. Chicken contains less fat than beef, the usual choice for a hotdog, although at the same time it has a slightly higher sodium content. The pack has a reasonably long shelf life which is useful as it can be kept on hand for emergencies.

These hotdogs are also quite nice cold. I discovered this by accident - there was nearly a complete hotdog which Mr Seven had tasted and then rejected. Because we had all had enough to eat by then, I put the remainder of his portion in the fridge and forgot about it. Later in the evening I was feeling peckish and discovered it, so decided to finish it. I admit that I enjoyed it; conventional hotdogs are not so nice once they have gone cold because the fat congeals on them. But because this was a chicken version, there was no problem. This is a plus as I hate throwing out good food, but it is a reality that reheating battered hotdogs does not work unless you do them in an oven, and who wants to heat a great big oven for half a hotdog?
