I am a fan of Sunrice products, especially the Street Snack Satay Chicken and Pad Thai flavours, so I was eager to try their newest flavour Teriyaki Chicken on Rice.

I really love how quick and easy the preparation are for these meals, great to take for lunch if you're like me and very disorganised in the morning! It's so great a few boxes of the Sunrice Street Snacks in my pantry to call on when needed, they are so easy and convenient for busy working mothers such as me.

When I opened the chicken and vegetable pouch had a real teriyaki smell which was really pleasing, I tipped onto the rice and duly microwaved for 60 seconds, stirred the mixture and sat down at my lunch table at work to eat. I liked the first taste, the sauce was sticky and I even had a nice juicy mushroom in the spoonful but I'm sorry to say from then on it went a bit downhill. The sauce was just too sugary, the more forkfuls I had the less I liked it, it was too overpoweringly sweet and I just couldn't finish it. I applaud the concept that Sunrice have, but all the meal left me with was disappointment that they could of done it so much better.

I will still continue to buy the other flavours in the Sunrice range, the size of the meals are a good size for me for lunch, the price is really reasonable and as a real bonus they are regularly on special at my local New World, so its a win win for me!

I always make sure I have easy to make lunches in the pantry for those rushed mornings trying to get the kids ready and then forget about making my own lunch. I have tried some of Sunrice's other products so was keen to give the Teriyaki Chicken and Rice street snack and knew I wouldn't be disappointed from previous experience and boy are these fantastic! I took this to work one day to give it a go, all I had to do was pour the pouch of teriyaki chicken into the cup of rice and microwave how much simpler can it get.

The smell was delicious my workmates made some comments on how it looked but it tested great. This was a big enough portion size for myself, a male or a bigger eater might need a couple of these or have this as a snack.

I love SunRice products, they are delicious, easy to use and last in the pantry for a long time. The price is really reasonable if you compare it if you had to buy your lunch, I will definitely have these on my shopping list. I've seen in the supermarket that SunRice do a variety of flavours so would be keen to give these a go as well.

When at university I subsidised my meagre holiday earnings by working part-time at an Asian restaurant; this experience gave me a lifelong love of Oriental cooking. After the restaurant closed each night, the staff got to eat the real thing - prepared by our chefs who had two menus, one for the customers and the other for the mainly Asian staff. The result of this was that I became quite critical of Asian cuisine, especially that produced for the pre-packaged market.

The packaging was strong and easy to negotiate although I found it a little tricky to get all the contents out of the pouch and into the cup. The instructions were that the plastic film had to be peeled back halfway so you could put the sauce in, but every time I tried, the plastic folded itself back down again. Finally I took it off completely and just parked it back over the cup before microwaving, and that worked. The instructions said it should be microwaved for one minute, depending on the power setting. I used the microwave at work which was a high wattage model, and a minute was plenty. If I were doing it at home in my own microwave, however, it would probably take longer.

There were some decent sized, very tender lumps of chicken in it which was a pleasant surprise as many package meals contain meat that is so totally pulverised that it comes out in one big sloppy mess. This was anything but; the sauce was on a par with what I would make at home, and the flavour was reasonably authentic if slightly too sweet. The mushroom pieces were small but there were plenty of them. Altogether I thought the mix was reasonably well balanced, and a single portion was plenty for lunch.

I like the packaging. The ingredients are clearly listed on the outer cardboard pack. This packaging is quite trendy, featuring attractive graphics and a clean shape. It has the added advantage of being easily stackable on a pantry shelf. The price is reasonable for a quick-to-prepare lunch snack; I could also imagine it being served as a side dish with some cold meat and a supermarket salad to make a meal for two people, but it is equally nice just as it is. I will be looking out for this in my local supermarket and buying some to keep for emergencies now that I know how tasty it is.

When I was given this meal to review, and realised it only took a minute to prepare, I immediately thought of it as a great option to take to work for lunch. However I ended up preparing this on my day off in the middle of a busy day of appointments, and so the quick time frame was a real blessing!

It really was easy to prepare - I emptied the flavour sachet into the cup and tried not to think about how much it felt like the foil sachets that the cat meat comes in! The smell left me a little wary at this stage, but I had a quick lick of my fingers and even cold, it was really yum. It was a little messy as I tried to squeeze every last bit from the packet, but I needn't have worried about getting it all, as it turned out there was plenty of sauce to coat everything.

A minute in my microwave turned out to be pretty good, but in hindsight I would have gone an extra 20 seconds to get it absolutely piping hot. I tipped it onto my plate and was a bit worried that it didn't seem to be a huge amount, but it was a sensible single serving and I found it filled me up nicely.

As far as taste goes, I went off teriyaki flavour years ago due to a bad flavour experience, so although I've come back around to liking it again, I'm still wary of fake teriyaki flavours. Upon tasting this though, I'm pleased to report that the flavour was lovely and felt authentic. There was a good amount of flavour and I loved the noticeable chunks of veges and chicken throughout the meal. I'm used to cooking rice from scratch and am probably used to slightly overcooked rice, so this rice felt a little chalky to me, but perfectly acceptable.

This is a good price if you compare to other easy-heat meals or to popping down to a cafe for lunch, so I think it's good value, but not something I'd personally eat on a regular basis. But I certainly recommend it for taste and simplicity and I can see it being a great item to have on hand for now and then.

Teriyaki chicken is always a favourite of mine and with every opportunity I get when dining out I will choose a menu item that consists of a teriyaki chicken flavoured dish, whether it be from subway or a Chinese restaurant. When I saw Sun Rice Teriyaki Chicken & Rice Street Snack come up for review I was very keen to give it a try, especially as Sun Rice is the rice which we purchase in our household so I knew that this combined with a Teriyaki chicken sauce had to be good no doubt.

Following the microwave instructions on the pack, the meal was quick and simple to put together, and the instructions were very easy to follow. Simply remove the contents from the box, and peel back the plastic film on the cup of rice half back, and then add the contents of the sauce and chicken pouch to this, EASY! Next you place the cup into the microwave for 60 seconds, remove the lid and stir, you now have a very tasty meal ready to eat. I personally loved how quick this meal was to prepare, however like I usually find with my Sun Rice rice cups at home 60 seconds isn't quite long enough, and 90 seconds is needed in order to heat the rice to a consistency and temperature that I like, so after putting this back into the microwave for another 30 seconds this meal was right up to my standards (the box does state that the 60 seconds is based on a 1000w microwave, i'm unsure of what mine is so you may not have this problem).

I was impressed with the amount of sauce that was in the meal, at first I was thinking maybe it was not going to be very saucy but once mixed in with the rice I saw that it was plentiful and gave the rice a well coated look. The sauce consisted of a lovely deep Teriyaki colour, and I could see several small chunks of chicken in amongst it aswell as some decent sized vegetable pieces, those of carrot and mushrooms. I had planned to serve this meal up as is for my dinner but Miss 3, who has recently gotten super fussy at meal times had been asking for taco's. I decided to follow through with her taco request, however instead of using our usual beef or chicken mix I opted to fill the taco shells with the teriyaki chicken mix instead, so into the shells it went before being topped with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, cheese and a drizzle of mayonnaise. The verdict was that these were delicious, miss 3 commented "I like rice in my taco Mummy", and my partner said the sauce was nice and made the tacos taste really good, he also said "you wouldn't know these had no meat in them" which I had to agree as the sauce was certainly the star of the dish, so lovely and sweet.

Not knowing at first if this would be enjoyed by me, let alone my whole family I must say we were all sold on this product. These are something we will certainly be looking out for at this weeks grocery shopping as they would make a great lunch for work, or a dinner for my partner who works night shifts, they are so simple that even he could manage to get it right! They'd also be handy to have on hand for a quick throw together dinner as I'm sure they would be perfect accompanied alongside a salad or even in a wrap. I look forward to trying other flavours of the Street Snack range, well done Sun Rice on a great product.

This looked like an interesting product, and I am quite the fan of teriyaki chicken (favourite subway sandwich flavour too!), so I was quite eager to put my hand up for this one. Claiming to be properly cooked in just sixty seconds, and in some very easy to stack packaging, this product looks like an ideal product for the pantry of any person that struggles with making meals for one, or just doesn't have the time to cook.

When I opened it up, I was a little surprised at how small the cup looked, and I was rather unconvinced that the product would be as "filling" as the packaging would save me believe. I had to read through the heating instructions a couple of times as the sentences "Do not microwave" and "Heat cup in microwave" were written one after the other in the same set of directions (but it really is simple to cook. It's just important that you microwave the plastic cup, and NOT the foil pouch.

The pouch was very easy to open, and microwaving was obviously no issue. But I found that sixty seconds didn't really provide "perfectly cooked rice". The sauce and chicken were heated up well enough, but the rice still had too much solidity to it, and that made it a little less enjoyable (So I'd personally treat it the same as the other rice pouches, and in the future give it a full 90 seconds in the microwave).

Looking at the product that came out of the microwave, it was easy to see that the marketing department had done its tricks to improve the aesthetics of the product on the packaging. The meal itself barely fills 3/4 of the cup, and the ratio of chicken teriyaki to rice is heavily weighed in favour of the rice. It didn't look all that appealing, and there was no real large chunks of anything like pictured on the packaging.

It took a little bit of work to properly mix all of the sauce and rice together, which was definitely needed (the meat and vegetable portion is very small, and nobody wants a mouthful or dry rice, so do make sure you mix it up properly). The small pieces of mushroom and and chicken did however spread out well enough, that even without any substantially large chunks, there was still a small piece of vegetable or chicken in each bite. The sauce itself was nice. Quite sweet, but not as sweet as other teriyaki products I have tried in the past. But it is a reasonably thick sauce, so it can be quite an overpowering flavour if not properly "diluted" amongst the rice.

I was really hoping for something that looked more like the product pictured on the front of the box, but when you look at the price it's still amazing value. Much cheaper than the average meal, and when I think about it, it was reasonably filling for what it is. It certainly doesn't look like the picture , but it does the job, and for a great price
