I am not going to lie but if you are lucky to ever receive this book or buy it you need to hide it from the kids or else you will have a fight on your hand. We received this on Saturday and a majority of it has already been coloured in, either by myself, my two daughters or surprisingly by my husband. It is beautiful. The pictures are stunning, with the added bonus you can put on your windows to make it really shine when the sun finally makes an appearance.
The makers of the book 'Klutz' have thought of everything. It includes ten beautiful pens that go fantastically together no matter what order you use them in. It has instructions on how to use the book. It has two copies of each picture - one for the windows or any other light source you have and another hard copy form to have as a poster or cover books. It has examples on how to colour the pictures if you so desire to and in some places it gives you tips about the picture subject or hints on the book - seriously it is perfect.
My nana is currently in hospital and as she loves horses I coloured the 'Folk Art Horse' in on Monday, before visiting her and stuck it on her window. The comments she has received by doctors, nurses, aids, visitors has been extraordinary and I have to admit I am a bit chuffed on how well it turned out. As her room has afternoon sun it is truely beaming. I did think it was going to cast rainbows but instead the picture just illuminates itself and it sparkles.
This book could suit any age as my youngest is four. Both of my girls are begging me each day to let them colour in another picture. It would be the ideal birthday present or just a gift on its own. I am truely in love with it and can not say enough good words about it. Honestly an amazing book and for $29.99 well worth it especially when you see your childrens faces light up when it is stuck to their bedroom windows - just awesome!
My girls and I are pretty big Klutz fans and have enjoyed trying out the various kits that come our way from Klutz. They are usually very well timed with the school holidays and generally keep my girls entertained for a while. I definitely had high expectations for this kit which was well timed with the end of the school holidays.
I immediately loved the look of this kit. It is very bright and colorful. The front of the case comes with a plastic reusable holder to keep ten precision tip markers with dual ends for hick and thin lines. the rest of the book is flat and begins with instructions for how to us e the book and the stained glass. Each double page has two identical pictures facing each other. One is the page of the book the other is the removable stained glass. what I love (actually the perfectionist in me really loves this) is that this enables the artist to have a try first before moving onto the stained glass. It also meant in my house that if two of the girls wanted the same design one would have the stained glass and the other would have the page from the book.
Each page has some great little tips and motivating comments on the sides. There are 18 really different designs in this book and I loved everyone of them. I have to say this book is probably one or the best art books I have come across. It has kept my girls entertained for hours and we still have many left to do. The girls have also worked together on designs so I love that this book has encouraged some collaboration between them all. The great thing is that I can do this with them also so it really does span the age ranges. The designs are very calming to do as well. The other bonus is that because this book is so nicely packaged with the holder for the pens it can easily be taken in the car or taken somewhere else to do as an activity. Very transportable though you may end up with a few taped to the car windows.... They are very pretty and catch the sun nicely so make for some nice decorations on the bedroom windows (or the lounge, kitchen and my bedroom... well anywhere really!)
I can definitely recommend this kit as brilliant for any age range from age five up. This is a great gift for any age for any reason and will be loved by all members of the family.

Guides little fingers toward a writing grip. As children approach 24 months, they begin to hold crayons with the thumb and two fingers. Washable triangular crayons are the right shape to help guide their fingers into the tripod position for more purposeful and controlled drawing.
Their scribbles now look like the zigzags or tighter, more controlled circles. The tripod grip is important for developing later writing skills. Crayola Beginnings Washable Triangular Crayons are designed to easily wash off walls with just warm water and a sponge.
