The adventures of Ragnar Lothbrok: the greatest hero of his age.
The series tells the saga of Ragnar's band of Viking brothers and his family as he rises to become King of the Viking tribes.
As well as being a fearless warrior, Ragnar embodies the Norse traditions of devotion to the gods: legend has it that he was a direct descendant of Odin, the god of war and warriors.

My husband saw this series ages ago and has been telling me how great it is and how I should watch it. Only 9 episodes long he said was on par with Outlander or Game of Thrones. As he is aware of my tastes I finally relented as had nothing else to watch.
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The scenery is breath taking. Views of waterfalls and greenery makes Scandinavia look like heaven on earth. The fight scenes are tastefully done as are the animal and human sacrifices. They do not show you anything instead just a scene of blood trinkling through the woods or dripping on a plant. The special effects are not that great especially when it comes to the boat scenes but it is still a great story and gripping at times. The acting is fantastic and leaves you always wanting more.
I personally do not understand why the Vikings had to pillage the villages and steal what was not theres but it is in their culture. It is a great honour those who are entrusted with this great mission. The belief in the gods is shown so visually and the faith that they have in the rituals is ingrained into them. I also like how Ragnar enslaves a priest and christinaity is explored. It is very well written. The casting can not be faulted and I find Floki awesome to watch his craziness knows no end.
They are just about to start filming the forth season and I don't think this series has been broadcasted enough. Ragnar is such a complex character and is played perfectly. I am dying to see what consequences will develop from his choices in the last two episodes of this series and to find what will happen to his wife. definitely up there for a drama series, well worth watching.
