Product reviews...
As soon as I saw this I loved the sound of the red apple waters fruit syrup. Nothing beats a nice crisp apple flavour. The fact it is advertised as naturally flavoured, with no artificial colours or preservatives is a big plus for me as well. A treat with less guilt than normal fizzy drinks.
As soon as it arrived I had to give it a go, opening the bottle I was hit with the scent of fresh apples. I fizzed up some water and after finding the correct line added the recommended amount of syrup. I found while it had a very strong apple scent it had very little apple taste. That problem was easily solved though just by adding a little more syrup.
The red apple got mixed reviews from those who tried it, my nieces both loved it but my husband was not a fan at all. I get a request from Miss 4 for my magic apple water every time she visits, the whole fizzing your own water and adding some flavour delights her. What I love about it is I can add just a touch and it's a much healthier treat for her than regular fizz. It's nice to know you can give children a treat with less sugar than other drinks.
I love the idea of less plastic bottles in the recycling and SodaStream offer a variety of flavours and it is a good way of making sure the family stay hydrated during summer. The bottle looks good with good clear instructions.
I noticed upon opening the bottle that the smell of sugar was incredibly strong, almost made me sick but I knew that it would be diluted in the drinks. I thought due to the hot days it would be a good idea to make this up uncarbonated and freeze into ice blocks. The colour was good and the taste was great, the kids have asked for more apple ice blocks and have almost come to blows over the last one, until they realised that I could do more ice blocks.
I had to try it as a drink as well but really should of just used as ice blocks, firstly I really struggled to see the lines in the cap and I found that the flavour was seriously lacking, all I could taste was soda water and no apple at all, I tried full strength but found not much difference between half and full strength. I would be buying this again to make seriously yummy ice blocks but wouldn't bother drinking it.
I love apple drinks and I love H2O flavored waters, I'm not a keen water drinker and never really have been. But having sodastream water fruits I thought this would be ideal to get myself drinking more water. When I got the bottle I was very excited about it, the bottle is shaped for a great grip and no slipping away from your hand.
The directions were easy to follow, fizzy your water and then fill syrup to first line of the cap and tip it in and shake. Sadly I thought the first line was the top part of the lip of the cap, so did that and tasted it and noone in the family liked it, it just tasted like fizzy water (soda water). So we gave it another go, and found the actual bottom line where it said 1 litre slightly sweet, but sadly we again couldn't taste any apple and the colour of the drink was very dull, there was no sweet to it. Giving it another go we filled to the top of the cap which said sweet and the colour was nice and bright the smell was yummy apples but there just still wasn't enough flavour for me to be happy to drink it.
We decided to try 1.5 caps and we found our taste, this was nice and sweet with the yummy smell of the apples, it would def be a you need to find your flavour and taste to suit your family. I did try it in normal water with 3 tablespoons of the syrup and that was pretty nice too. My 7 year old daughter liked all the ways we did it, my 6 year old only liked it when the water wasnt fizzy and my partner and I liked the 1.5 caps.
As for the bottle as I said its a nice shape, good easy directions and just a twist it to unscrew the top. Sadly the lines on the cap I fill arent dark enough so they arent easy seen and you can't see them as your filing up the cap from the inside, I think a darker colour would be a lot better. I would also think this would be user friendly as the wrapper pulls of clean and that would leave a nice clean bottle to reuse (clean and refilled with another syrup). The cap also I feel is hard to pour into the bottle as its round I made a bit of a mess pouring and my kids really made a mess, I feel if there was a little triangle bit on the lid as a pourer this would help alot, even though it has a lip to catch this doenst help much when you put the lid onto the bottle it went down the side.
Overall the product smells yummy and gives a great smell when you first open it each time you want a drink. Sadly this would cost us a fair bit as the family needs more than the recommended amount on the bottle. Using it in the sparkling water and non sparkling worked well and pleased everyone with different ways but that would mean I would have to make a couple of bottles up. Its not a sodastream choice I will buy but I was very happy to try it.
Looking at the bottle just screams apple and it looks so inviting. Knowing that we could have up to 9 litres of this drink was a little concerning at first as I did not enjoy the Pink Lemonade and was worried I would feel the same way about this. My daughters could not wait to trial this flavour and where screaming for it from day one.
I took the lid of and reminds me of an apple orchard it is so yummy and strong and smells just like apples should, nice and fresh and crisp. When pouring the syrup into the soda stream bottle it looks just like apple juice and even I have to admit I was getting a little excited. Smelling my cup I could still smell the apples and taking my first sip I was so pleasantly surprised that I finished my cup pretty much straight away. I have to admit I really enjoy this.
As previously stated, I am not a fan of the new top concept and find it very hard to read the lines and what they mean so I just went past the top line and it was perfect - the right combination. I would not want to have less syrup than this as do want to taste it and could easily of added a little bit more to the very top. Could easily see myself drinking this on the deck on a warm summers evening. Yummy.
I love Appletiser and it is a treat that my family only has at Christmas time as it is very expensive and it is looked upon as something special for the kids and non-drinkers. I asked to review the Soda Stream Waters Fruits red apple variety as I was keen to see how it compared to Appletiser. It would work out much cheaper. A bottle of red apple syrup retails for $9.99 and make up to 9 litres. 750mls of Appletiser is $5.49. Appletiser is $7.30/litre whereas Soda Stream's equivalent is $1.11/litre plus gas. Soda Stream is also better for the environment as there are not tonnes of bottle going into the landfill and we can control the strength and carbonation.
The true test would be the taste. I got a little bit of syrup on my finger when I first opened the bottle and took the opportunity to taste it. It was just like the syrup I get when baking apples in the oven. I carbonated the water and filled the syrup to the first line of the cap as directed and found this wasn't quite sweet enough for me. With a little tweaking I got the ratio just right for me. I shared it with my daughters and they both enjoyed it.
With Christmas only a few days away I am keen to take my Soda Stream machine over to my parents for Christmas dinner. That will be where I get everyone's opinion but I am sure they will agree that next Christmas we will be having Soda Stream red apple rather than Appletiser especially when they see that is has no artificial colours, no preservatives and naturally sweetened.
I love apple flavouring. I'm not so big on eating actual apples, but anything apple flavoured is a winner with me. I brought this home to review and was interested to see how this would go down with the family and our game group. The first time we tried it, we all noticed it was dramatically less flavourful than the others we have tried. I'm guessing this is because it's a naturally flavoured one and has a bit less sugar.
My 3 year old enjoyed it and asked for more. In the end she drank quite a sizable glass full. She would not normally have that much soft drink. We try to limit her exposure to them, but with this we felt comfortable that it was a treat and she wasn't getting a huge hit of sugar. Her sister wouldn't touch it, but she isn't into fizzy drinks so that was to be expected.
Most of the adults drinking it enjoyed it though commented on it needing more syrup. I thought it was really nice and more like a sparkling water with a touch of apple flavour to it. Recently I was baking as well, and I thought I would try using this apple syrup in some cookies to replace the golden syrup. This worked so well! and it added a yummy apple taste to the cookie as well. It wasn't overwhelming, but it was a great addition with the seeds and nuts in the mixture.
