Product reviews...
I have a sweet tooth and am not a fan of grapefruit but I had to try some when a friend made a glass up in her sodastream, I really liked the smell as it didn't smell like it was highly chemical or sickly sweet. I wasn't totally sold on the idea until I had a tiny sip. I then asked for more which surprised my friend as she knows I am not a fan of grapefruit.
I noticed that KIWIreviews still had a few bottles to review and my mind started thinking how else can I use this? I have a son who refuses to drink water or even juice easily, he gets to the point of almost passing out before I can get him to drink a decent amount of liquid but he adores ice blocks and slushies so I knew I would be making some of this drink and putting it in the freezer.
The colour was a very slight pink but after it was frozen the ice block looked clear like water so I didn't think it was going to be a success but the taste was amazing and I couldn't keep up with demand especially from my youngest who will tell me that he is not thirsty but will happily have an ice block or cup of slushy.
I like that the sugar content is not too high and feel happy making heaps of frozen treats to keep the family hydrated.
While the "Pink Lemonade" syrup was essentially just regualr lemonade that had a fair amount of it's tartness toned down by some other sweeter flavour, I understand that "Pink Grapefruit" is actually a unique variation of Grapefruit in it's own right. As I have never tasted it before, trying this drink was a brand-new experience for me, and I was quite excited to experience it. The flavour I got was actually really nice, and different in a way similar to the Pink lemonade.
This version of grapefruit was less tart and acidic, it had more of a sweet yet tangy flavour which quickly became my preferred variation of the notoriously acidic fruit. The syrup made the experience of trying out this new flavour far more enjoyable, as I was not having to shove my face into an actual fruit but instead I was able to have the stuff as a refreshing drink. I found that the diltution of the syrup changed the flavour massively, adding more concentrate exposed more of the acidic properties of the drink, even if they were subtle to begin with, so keep in mind that those who enjoy that acidic "bite" in their drink can still get the same effect with this stuff.
I'm not entirely good at describing flavours, all I can say about the flavour of this drink was a very pleasant one, and I was able to enjoy it in two ways. I had the stuff at first as a soft drink, but after I had made up 1 litre of soft drink for each of the 4 flavours I had been given to review then our Sodastream machine ran out of gas, so we are unable to use it until I get a refill. There is no rush, however, this syrup worked well as just a normal cordial without the need for carbonating the water.
I would say that the uses for this particular syrup go beyond drinks, I am quite curious as to how the fizzed version of this drink would work as a cheescake ingredient, it could be interesting to try. For now, however, my bottle of concentrate is almost empty as this was quite an addictive flavour of drink, so I will have to track down more syrup and get our machine refilled before I can start experimenting. The point is: this syrup makes a very nice drink that has uses in baking which could be worth trying, so I would recommend getting your hands on some of this stuff ASAP!
I tend to drink pretty much nothing but water and the odd orange juice but sometimes I feel like a treat. I always feel guilty though after have a glass or two of coke. I had never heard of the soda stream water fruits until I saw it come up for review but once I saw it I knew I had to try it. Naturally flavoured, with no artificial colours or preservatives was a big selling point for me!
Knowing my review parcel was on it's way and hoping I would have some water fruits to try I made sure there was gas for the soda stream and the bottles were in the fridge chilling. I was so excited to open my package and discover I had some to try. Pink grapefruit is a flavour I adore normally as I find it's never too sweet. However when I opened the bottle of syrup the first thing that hit me was a sickly sweet scent. I was a bit worried that when I tasted it that it would be a super sweet drink.
I fizzed up my water and went to add the recommended amount of syrup, this was a challenge in its own as I struggled to find the line in the cap. Once I gave it a small mixed I poured a couple of glasses for my husband and I to try. For me it was perfect just a hint of the grapefruit flavour, it spruced up my water but not too much. My husband though found it too weak for his taste buds as he has a really sweet tooth, this was easy solved though he just added a little more syrup to suit his tastes.
I really enjoy the flavour and will be buying more for sure when this bottle is gone. While it still has a bit of sugar in it, it's still a lot better as a treat than regular fizz. Everyone who has tasted it has loved it including my young nieces, while some prefer a little more syrup it's really simple to change to suit people's tastes.
I grew up drinking grapefruit in bulk when our tree would give us an abundance of fresh fruit, pink grapefruit to me was such a treat, a posh version of this fruit that I loved. I was keen to try this and see how it would taste and turn out. The bottle suggested half a cap and I gave it a try but found it too weak for my tastes so the next bottle I made I filled the syrup up to the top line and off we went, though I must say that the two lines are rather hard to see.
When it comes to the taste of the drink, it wasn't very strong flavor wise but I could drink it happily enough on a hot summers day when needing something to cool me down without hyping me up as much as other drinks (it still has a decent amount of sugar in it). When drinking this it struck me as very much of a drink to be used as a mixer, so, I did just that with a ginger wine. As a mixer this drink is perfect!!! and it made a delicious combination with the pink grapefruit shining through.
Whilst not top of my 'to drink' list, this will be a great mixer and a nice drink to cool down with.
When I saw there was grapefruit flavour for our sodastream machine, my eyes lit up and I was keen to review it as I love grapefruit, and especially grapefruit flavoured drinks. I wondered if by the name 'sodastream waters' that it might be a bit wishy washy for me, but I figured the beauty of soda stream is that you can make it as strong or as weak as you like so it was worth trying.
I started by experimenting glass by glass for myself - I really wish they had instructions on suggested quantities to make it up by the glass, but I found the perfect strength for me and really enjoyed it. It wasn't tart at all and it had a slight artificial taste for want of a better word but it was pretty good.
It occurred to me though, that I couldn't really comment on their suggested strength so with visitors coming over last night, I decided to make up a full bottle based on the quantities they suggest. I tasted it and quite liked it (it says it will be lightly sweetened) but one visitor commented it was a bit weak for her. I just handed her the flavour bottle to top up her drink) and that solved that one!
As for the rest of the guests, I didn't manage to get everyone's opinions but the bottle was downed pretty fast so I'll take that as a good sign... even the kids seemed to like it.
I'd definitely buy this again and happily serve to guests.
The title "Waters Fruits" gave me the impression of something that might be better for me than other syrup options for soda stream or other fizzy drinks. I have always been a bit of a sucker for pink grapefruit drinks too. I thought that this drink would be right up my alley! I was lucky enough for my husband to pre-empt my desire to test out one of my latest review products. He had a nice bottle of cold water fizzed in the soda stream all ready for me to go!
The instructions told me to fill the cap to the first line. I had to hold the cap at various angles to to check that I was looking at the right line - it is there but not entirely easy to see. Now that I know what I am looking for, I will be fine for future drinks! I poured the contents of the cap into the fizzy water and gave the bottle a gentle shake. I poured a little into each family member's glass. Everyone absolutely loved it. The kids, who aren't usually allowed drinks other than milk or water, were very excited to be able to taste fizzy drink. Both my husband and I found it to be a very refreshing drink. It didn't taste too sweet and I figured that it didn't have too much sugar in it. Everyone wanted more and the kids were of the impression that because we 'made it ourselves' in the SodaStream that it was ok for them to have as much as they wanted!!! Great thinking kids!
When I looked at the nutritional information, I found that we were still having around three teaspoons of sugar in a 250 ml glass (4.4g per 100ml). That still seems like way too much sugar to be consuming. I note that there isn't any sodium in this drink, which is a huge positive. I have previously been a serious coke drinker and I have managed to pretty much remove that dangerous item from my diet. Coke has 10.6g of sugar per 100ml so a significant amount more than this pink grapefruit drink. I must say that the pink grapefruit Waters Fruits drink is much nicer to drink than coke and is much better for me. However, I wont be lured into a false sense of security!
Will I buy it again? The answer is yes. We really enjoyed it and it seems to be a much better option for us than other fizzy drinks. I think it would be a good option to take to BBQs over the holiday period. As long as I still think of it as a treat drink, I will be very happy with it!
