Klutz Nail Art (2015 edition) product reviews

We just couldn't resist giving this Klutz classic a little polish... Nail Art is getting a fresh look with all-new photography, layout and design - plus new polish colours, gorgeous new designs, and an exclusive fine-tipped detail brush.

This time-tested favourite is a fully-photographic instruction book packed full of tips, techniques, and over 35 designs to paint on fingernails (and toenails, too). With 6 colours of water-based, non-toxic, peel-off nail paints, you can try every design idea on (and off - and on - and off) with no nail polish remover required.

From apples to zigzags, there's something here to please even the most finicky fingertips!

We have loved Klutz products over the years and there have been some great ones. They are just great for young crafty children and provide great rainy day or holiday entertainment. My daughter is now 13 and has tried many klutz kits over the years. Being a teenager she is right into doing her nails so this was a great kit for her to get some design inspiration.

The book contains a lot of ideas for designing your nails in easy step by step projects with visual aids to help you on the way, The pictures certainly help you get an idea of how to do it step by step which is handy for beginers. There are a variety of different projects including animals and food so good for children to get a project that suits their interests. My daughter is a big fan of animals so she was most keen on the cat and bunny project and got stuck into these.

She was able to complete the nail art design using the books diagrams and tools provided so it is definitely a simple enough kit for children to use by themselves. I had a go myself and found it great a much better way to get ideas than the youtube tutorials my daughter normally uses as a guide. I would say this is best suited to younger children though than my 13 year old as a lot of the designs are quite young.

The nail polish itself is a peel off polish so it is really easy to apply but it is also easy to get back off. This ended up being quite frustrating for my daughter as it just came off in the shower and even rubbed off when she was sleeping. For this reason she prefers to use her own nail polish and just use the kit for the design ideas. However the polish would be good for younger children as it means they can get the polish off easy and start a new design. If you want to keep your design for a longer period of time I woudl recommend using a better polish though.

The small brush provided is perfect for doing the fine detailing required in the designs like eyes on the animals so this is quite a handy tool to have added to her nail art kit. All in all like over klutz products this is a great kit and I wouldn't hesitate to buy a set as a gift for a child. I give it a 10 out of 10.

I have developed a great love of Klutz products. I find that they bring back my desire to play with lots of creative ideas. They offer step-by-step instructions to create the designs offered in the kits, but also open my mind to develop ideas of my own. The Klutz Nail Art kit is just like the other kids I have tried, fantastic!

I have never thought of doing nail art on myself or my children, however, I do enjoy all sorts of crafts and recently started to have fun face painting children. The idea of being able to do nail art as well excited me as I thought I could add it to my little bag of tricks for this kids birthday parties.

I found that the instructions are broken down nicely to enable the user to create cool and exciting designs. Initially, we followed the instructions carefully and even used the colours suggested. As we played more, the kids and I played around with the designs and chose our own colours.

It is great how the contents page has pictures of all the designs. Miss 3 and I looked at this page and then leafed through the book to find the instructions for the particular design she wanted. I found it helpful as both of us knew what was expected when she said she wanted a 'cat' or a 'bear' etc.

The polish is marketed as a peel-off product. It lives up to the advertising and I found that it was really easy to get off. I applied some designs to my children's nails and then to mine. I found that the kids ones peeled off a lot quicker as they are pretty rough with their hands. I actually managed to keep part of one or my designs of for three days - that is about the same amount of time as I get out of normal nail polish. After painting my daughter's nails, she decided that she should paint my finger nails. The fact that the polish is easy to get off, I wasn't too worried about her attacking my fingers. She was so happy and proud that she could do my nails. When she opened the bottle, she nearly dropped it. Usually, my heart would have skipped a beat as I imagined nail polish everywhere on the floor. This time, I had the security of knowing that the product was so much easier to clean up than standard nail polish. The Kultz bottles are also plastic and therefore unlikely to break if they hit the floor. As recommended in the book, I has put down some newspaper under our work area.

Too often there are kits on the market which come with a next to useless paint brush. When I opened this kit, the first thing I noticed was how good the detail brush was. It is nice and fine and can hold its own when you paint with it (it doesn't have stray bristles going everywhere). Such a simple thing but makes a huge difference to the overall enjoyment of the kit.

Although Miss 3 and I had a lot of fun with this product, the kit is designed for children who are six and up. I could imagine that the older children would have so much fun with the kit by themselves and that it would make a treasured birthday present. From having a 12 year old niece, I know that this would be right up her alley as well. It is great when a present can stretch across such a wide age range.

I like the way Klutz invite people to make contact and comment on their products. It makes the customer feel like they are part of the bigger picture and not just there to buy the Klutz products. I have just popped onto their Kultz Facebook page so that I can keep up with new products and discussions about their products. In another Klutz book, they gave details on how to buy further products to allow the user to continue to use the kits after the consumables were gone. I have looked through the book and couldn't find out how or where I would find further nail polishes like the ones in the kit. I was wondering how I could get hold of more of the nail polishes once the ones in the kit ran out, so I sent a message to Klutz. Within about 48 hours, they replied to me and gave me a website in Australia where I could get replacement supplies for their kits. Unfortunately, I couldn't see the supplies on that site. They did also suggest that local craft stores may have them, so I will have to keep an eye out.

On a personal level, I have really enjoyed playing around with designs on my nails and I think that I might even graduate to trying some of the ideas with 'real' nail polish. My children and I will continue to play with and enjoy this kit and we look forward to sharing it with my nieces as well.

I know that I will continue to love Klutz products and they will certainly be on my list for birthday presents for all the kids in my life (and some adults too!). Nail Art is one that I am thinking of buying for my niece for her next birthday as I am sure she will love it!
