I loved joke books as a kid and my son (age 7) is at the age where he loves telling jokes but doesn't always get the punch line right so I thought he might like a joke book to help him out.
This book is colourful and fun and crams a lot of jokes into a relatively thin volume. I love that all the jokes are categorised (Food funnies, Classroom crack-ups, Animal antics, etc) and the contents page at the beginning makes it easy to find what you're looking for. The jokes are short and funny giving my partner and I a good laugh but often going over my son's head but it just means that this book will last longer as he can grow into it.
It's a great book for encouraging independent reading - the text is clear and easy to read and my son, who normally doesn't show any interest in reading to himself, will sit for ages and read joke after joke - he's even been taking it to bed with him. His favourite section is Gross giggles and the jokes never get old (at least to him anyway).
Out of all the books that he has this one would have to be his favourite and he hasn't had it for all that long - definitely a good purchase (reasonably priced too) and perfect for any joke loving girl or boy.
When I was a kid, I loved joke books. I was wasn't too into reading, but a joke book would always trick me into reading without realising it.
As my husband and I read some of the jokes in the 'K-Zone Totally Awesome Jokes' book, I found myself having a good chuckle like I would have when I was a kid. We both enjoyed the jokes and I had forgotten how much fun one could have reading and sharing jokes. Our five year old enjoyed some of the jokes but others were a bit over his head. I would imagine that they would be perfectly suited for kids around eight. In fact, I know of a few children in the family who would love the book and are very likely to get it for their upcoming birthdays. Finding the right present for nieces and nephews can be hard and I think that this joke book would be ideal.
The jokes in the book are short and quick. They are aimed at allowing the reader to move smartly from one joke to the next. They are separated in to sections in the book to cover a variety of topics, e.g. food funnies, classroom crack-ups, gross giggles, knock knock jokes etc. This helps there readers to attempt to devise an answer to the jokes based on the answers from other jokes in the section. I love the alliteration used for the titles of each section and I think kids would love it too.
The layout of the book is well done. I was impressed by the way that there is lots of colour and excitement but there is also great consistency in the presentation. Each joke box is the same size and shape. There is also consistency in the font and colour of the text. Each question is in black and each answer is in white. My mother had a look at the book and she said that she found that she could read the text well, even though she often has trouble with kids books as there is too much colour in the text and not enough contrast with the background colours. 'K-Zone Totally Awesome Jokes' has colour and fun on every page. This book looks hip and cool but easy to read and follow.
This is a perfect book for birthday presents as the price of $12 makes it accessible to families. I am sure to buy some copies to keep aside and ready to go for the unexpected birthdays that seem to come out of nowhere!

The only thing that kept young Nixie Swisher from suffering the same fate as her parents, brother, housekeeper, and young sleepover companion was the impulsive nine-year-old's desire for an illicit orange fizzy at 2 a.m. Taking the bereft girl under her wing, Eve is determined to make sure the killers don't get the chance to finish their lethal job.
