Dallas Buyers Club product reviews

In mid-1980s Texas, electrician Ron Woodroof (Matthew McConaughey) is stunned to learn that he has AIDS.

Though told that he has just 30 days left to live, Woodroof refuses to give in to despair. He seeks out alternative therapies and smuggles unapproved drugs into the U.S. from wherever he can find them.

Woodroof joins forces with a fellow AIDS patient (Jared Leto) and begins selling the treatments to the growing number of people who can't wait for the medical establishment to save them.

We have had this sitting on the hard drive for a couple of months now and have been putting it off from watching as figured it would be very heavy and depressing. Actually it really wasn't, if anything made you so mad at the FDA, the government and the Medical Industry. As with everything money is the biggest factor when looking for cures and when Ron finds a way of maintaining his disease and then sells them to other patients dying of the disease the FDA gets involved and tries to close him down.

I can understand why McConaughey received the awards for his stunning patrayal of a guy dying of the aids virus. He lost so much weight for the role and looks rather sickly a lot of the time. I was blown away with Jarad Letos role as transsexual Rayon. The role must of taken so much out of the both of them.

The movie is based on the true story of a Red Neck, alcoholic, drug-addicted electrician/rodeo cowboy Ron Woodroof that when informed he had Aids. Initially refusing to beleive it, as only 'homos' got the disease. He became the unlikely hero to millions around the world as he fought the FDA and the medical industry wanting to be able to treat his illness his way.

Although, it had the tendancy to be rather boring it was still fascinating to see how it all played out and to watch the transformation of Ron throughout the movie. I wouldn't want to watch again but it is worth viewing if only to see Jarad and Matthews physical appearance change. We have now seen all of the 'oscar nominated performances' and in this occasion I think they got it spot on for the best actor and best supporting actor.

One thing I wanted to know was, what happened to all of the prosititues he had unprotected sex with and his friend he shared the girls around with. There was also a scene where he punched the cop and they both had blood on there faces - it never discussed if the friends ended up with the disease. I know it is based on his story but there could be some elements of truth especially the free sex he apparently had.
