Doctor Who: Season One product reviews

Rose Tyler, a young shop assistant in a London department store, lives a humdrum and profoundly average life - until the night the shop dummies where she works wake up and try to kill her. Her life is saved by a strange man who only calls himself The Doctor (Christopher Eccleston), and intrigued by him, she finds herself thrown headlong into a hectic battle to stop an alien presence from invading Earth and annihilating the human race.

She comes to learn that her new friend is even stranger than she thought - in fact, the Doctor's an alien adventurer called a 'Time Lord', seemingly the last of his race, who travels through time and space in his TARDIS battling evil where he finds it. And if she travels with him, she'll find herself witnessing the heat-death of the Earth five billion years in the future, meeting Charles Dickens in the past, and encountering lifeforms and invaders stranger than she'd ever thought possible. Only one thing is certain - it'll be the ride of a lifetime...

I was told that I'm going to be watching Doctor Who as my friend can't believe I had never watched any episodes at all, I had seen the adverts and thought what sort of name is Doctor Who and what exactly does he or she do?

You have to be able to accept that time travel is real and that you can be on the adventure of your life and you often are but all in the comfort of your own living room. Some parts of history are used like World War 2, it was a spine chilling episode and had me asking "do we find out what happened?" to be told to just watch and all will be revealed.

I can imagine how much fun the actors and crew would have had making the series. How often do you get to pretend to be flying through space and finding strange races and old enemies on the other side? How often can you save the world from aliens and not let on that you are an alien even if you aren't a threat to them? How do you explain to those who are waiting and wondering what is going on? I would actually love to see the bloopers.

I am looking forward to seeing much more of the Doctor.

After a long break from our TV screens Doctor Who returns bringing us the mystery that is Bad Wolf and a very different doctor from where we left off in the original series and movie.

This Doctor is one who has been formed and shaped by the Time War, something we only get a very small amount of information about. He meets Rose, who he invites to become his companion and travel through time and space. Together we meet a range of aliens, both new and old, including one of the Doctors greatest enemies, the Daleks! The acting is well done, though re-watching the first season always reminds me that Billie Piper wasn't the best at the beginning but got better during the season.

The Empty Child is a very spooky episode, I don't think there's much spookier than a child with a WW2 gas mask on crying out "are you my mummy?". The episodes are done well enough that you don't need to have seen any of the first seasons to catch up and there's enough in here to bring in new fans and keep the old fans. One of my favourite characters ever is introduced, Captain Jack Harkness and we have our first regeneration.

I was so glad to see this come back on TV and I've re-watched this season so many times already.
