Product reviews...
I really do like coffee as it helps with headaches and helping me relax and ease the pain in my head but really hate the strong taste of most coffee. I do drink instant so I can use less powder and that seems to avoid the strong taste.
I had seen that these were available for request but since I have had some of the other coffee products from Avalanche and found that the taste was far too strong I passed on requesting this coffee. I was recently at a friends and they have some of the coffee and I thought well at least I can use a tiny bit of powder and it should taste acceptable and I was so surprised when I had the first sip, it did taste wonderful even better than normal instant powder.
Only thing I would change is the design of the bottle as it looks really really small with a large and long lid but when open you see that there is a full bottle of coffee and that it is not as small as it looks.
I do like the taste of the coffee but at that price I don't think I would be buying this product too often. I also see that they do a medium roast so might have to buy some to see what the difference is between the two products
When my husband came home on Tuesday, he saw this bottle sitting on the bench. All I heard from the other room was "what is this? This looks cool! How much did it cost?" Then he opened it and was even more vocal. "Oh, I like this bottle, it's a neat design eh!" I have to agree. It's got actually a bit deceptive, but when you take the lid off, you can see that it's quite a big bottle and filled high with granules.
We had a gathering at our place that night, so he made coffees for everyone. Most of the guys were "men of few words". So I got several thumbs up, a "really nice" and a "quite good". They all commented that it tasted like a cross between a plunger style coffee and a freeze-dried coffee. They also commented on the bits in the bottom of their mug, like a real coffee. I enjoyed the flavour and noticed the style was more closely like a "real coffee" too.
Then last night, as a bit of experimentation I decided to do a hot chocolate pudding, with a coffee custard for us adults. I used 2 teaspoons of the custard mixed into the sugar and custard powder. I made a paste with hot water and a bit of milk, and then added the rest of the milk to make the custard. It turned out really nice and the flavour was a great compliment to the rich chocolate flavour of the pudding.
This one was a winner in our house and one I will most likely purchase in the future. The price is not too bad, considering the size of the bottle and the flavour, which is always a factor for us. It's a good decent coffee and that is what keeping me going, especially in winter.
I always buy freeze dried coffee to drink in my house so was keen to try Avalanche that is 85% freeze dried and 15% infused fresh coffee. Fresh coffee is a favourite so to be able to possibly get a better tasting coffee by this being added I was excited.
At first I was a bit puzzled about the packaging of this product. How do I open it? Is it really necessary to have so much unrecyclable plastic on a glass jar? Hey it looks good but I am all about saving the planet a little.
When tasting this coffee for the first time I was pleased it was up to the same standard of freeze dried coffee that I was used to. It is a little dearer than what I would normally pay (but then again I only ever buy coffee on special). I was trying to find a way to compare the coffees and how I did that was by making a second cup straight away as with my normal coffee I would not be able to have a second cup straight away, however with this avalanche coffee it was not problem as it did not have the aftertaste of others that I am not fond of.
So Avalanche you have got a new buyer of the Avalanche Duo - dark roast. The 15% infusion of fresh coffee does the trick.
I adore coffee but don't get to drink much of it as I find it makes me dizzy, but enjoying a good coffee is a must in this house and my husband and mother both love coffee so it was with interest that I requested this.
I've had both instant coffee and real coffee made with ground beans before so I was most intrigued that this is 85% freeze dried coffee and 15% infused fresh coffee. My first reaction to the container was a little bit of fear, opening it up and not knowing quite what to expect, I was most concerned that I was going to drop the bottle and loose it all or break it, thankfully I managed not to, my only thought is that I would have felt more secure with one or two more turns of the lid.
As for taste, well this was really rather nice, it got the seal of approval from both my mother and my husband and my mother even has asked to have some again. For me, I did not get dizzy at all from it! This is pretty big for me as usually one sip of any coffee has me dizzy, but I managed one sip, then two, then three and before I knew it I had finished the whole cup with no ill effects, so I would buy this again, simply based upon that.
I'm a bit of a coffee fiend and always have lots of varieties of coffees on the go for different times of the day or moods so I was interested to see where this would fit in on my coffee scale.
I've had this for a week and had thought it would be my morning drink but surprisingly it hasn't knocked my present morning coffee of its perch and has been relegated (not a bad thing) to my lunch time and mid afternoon 'need a pick me up' spot.
On first look at this Avalanche duo which has 85% freeze dried coffee and 15% infused fresh coffee I had expected it to taste much like my normal morning cup of coffee granulated brand. However I was very wrong. Although this looks exactly like a premium granulated coffee it tastes very much like a plunger coffee drink. How good is that I think every time I make a cup that without having to warm up my plunger, put in the coffee, clean up all the coffee that spilt off the spoon, add the water, wait for it to settle and infuse, stir, wait, plunge then pour instead I can just put a teaspoon in my cup, add water and milk and enjoy! So good. This duo really has made my coffee plunger redundant. There is also very little sediment left in the bottom of the cup.
Also in terms of aesthetics the jar is pretty cool too. I do find the bottom of the jar just not quite long enough to hold without fearing I will drop it as I unscrew or screw on the lid. To mitigate dropping the jar I just make sure I open and close it whilst resting the base on the bench. Price wise this compares with premium granulated coffee brands so is competitively priced.
If you like plunger coffee I would definitely recommend trying this. It is a brilliant substitute and so much easier to deal with. I will definitely take this when going away rather than my plunger and ground coffee.
Fantastically innovative and a brilliant new product to try. Thanks Avalanche.
