Product reviews...
I first noticed these Fast and Fruity Chunky Pourable Fruits at the supermarket a few months ago now, they were located down with the ready to eat fruits, such as the fruits and jelly's and the fruit squirts. My partner loves adding Easiyo toppings to his Fresh and Fruity yoghurts each evening, however lately we have noticed that they have stopped stocking the berry flavours and only seem to have the passion fruit one which is disappointing as it is his least favourite flavour.
I decided to grab one of each of these to try so we left with the peach with hints of vanilla, Berries and apples, sunshine sweet tropical and the plums and pears. That night I served up my partner his yoghurt with the berry fruit on top. Straight away his comment was "what's this? it's not Easiyo" when I showed him the packet he said how impressed he was with this, and that it was much better than the usual as it was lots more chunkier and more fruit like.
We have since tried all off the flavours and have found many many uses for these, Miss 2 loves them poured over the top of her cereal each morning especially the golden peaches which she also likes to eat as is. We have used them as toppings on pancakes and have also used them in baking them make a great muffin filling. We often use them in smoothies when we don't have enough fruit to add.
These are stored in the fridge and are so easy and convenient to use as you just unscrew the cap use what you need and then reseal it again, they last really well. The pouch size is awesome and goes along way.
We've made our way through all the flavours apart from dark plum as I haven't seen that in our supermarket. They are a huge hit with my kids who love having it on weetbix in the morning, bonus is that there is only natural sugar in them so they can have a flavour hit without the added sugar.
I've made muffins with the tropical one, I used a banana chocolate chip muffin recipe from the Marvellous Muffins cookbook and replaced the banana directly with the fast and fruity, they came our perfectly, smelt delicious and were devoured promptly. I've also used it swirled into custard, YUM!
While I like that it's chunkier than the baby fruit pouches the method of delivery means that the chunks often get caught in the spout, more so with the berries than the other flavours, a quick poke with a skewer soon sorts it out though, until the next time. I love that they are resealable and easy enough for the kids to pour their own, especially once we've used it a few times. It's also easy to make sure you get all the fruit out if you roll the bottom as you go.
My only other downfall is probably a repercussion of my upbringing in that I find the flavour lacking a little, most likely due to the lack of added sugar but it is a really handy way to add fruit to dishes and the pack size means there's plenty for everyone, and lots left over for the next dessert or baking experiment. They are definitely a regular item on my shopping list now, if not for me, definitely for the kids! My 8 year old son loves it so much he makes sure he tells everyone that walks in the door about it and tells them they MUST buy it and what better recommendation can you ask for!
I saw this in the supermarket this weekend, after listing it here for another member. I was intrigued so I just had to grab a bag or two of these. I picked up the Berries and Apple and the Peach with hints of Vanilla. My first experiment with this product was last night when I made us a chocolate self saucing pudding in the microwave. This involved a little butter, some sugar, flour, baking soda and milk. Once mixed, on top I sprinkled some brown sugar, cocoa and then poured 1 1/2 cups of hot water on top. Then I microwaved it for 10 minutes.
I served the hot chocolate pudding with vanilla ice cream, and the Berries and Apple Fast and Fruity mixture. My family really enjoyed pudding and said that the berry flavour really added to the dessert overall. I'm only sorry I was not brave enough to mix the fruit into the pudding before cooking it. I will have to try it incorporated next time.
For the Peach with a hint of Vanilla, I made Vanilla muffins today with this each mixture spooned into the middle with some cheese as well. The Peach flavour definitely has that hint of Vanilla. It was a delicious addition to the muffins. I had some left over in the bowl I put aside for spooning into the muffins. Licking that bowl was a treat.
I did really enjoy the flavour of both of these packs. I liked that they were resealable as well, because there is quite a lot per pack. Both packs are now in my fridge awaiting the next dessert I plan. The only negative I had with both packs was that the hole to get the fruit out, is quite small and I did have some trouble getting a good flow. I had to turn the bag around a couple of times and massage it to get the fruit to keep coming out. Otherwise, this is a great product and I was very happy with it.
