Product reviews...
Since being given the PowerMat to review two weeks ago I have fallen in love with it. This set consists of two main components the Powermat 2px and the Power Cube.
The PowerMat is the base. It is so compact that it sits on the base of my PC monitor and the electrical cable hides down the back of my computer desk. There is no more clutter of cables for all the different chargers we need for charging the different devices we have in a modern home. It is very simple to use. It makes a sound that reminds me of Star War's R2D2 to tell you it is connected correctly and started charging. There is also a light to show you it is charging. After you have used it once you will never have to look at the instructions again.
This model charges up to two devices at a time. I used it to charge my husband's cellphone with the PowerCube while also charging the Powermat Power Dual 1200 Rechargeable Backup Battery. It coped very well with this and turned each side off independently when fully charged.
I think my favourite feature of the PowerMat is it's automatic shut off when charged. This means that I can charge my phone overnight without ruining the battery, wasting power (and money) and the fire risk. This is particularly handy with my husband's work phone that he wants fully charged each morning but he can leave it on the PowerMat all weekend without a worry. Because of this the PowerMat has become the place we automatically put our phones when we are at home. No more ringing each other's phones to try and locate them. Since each side shuts off when not in use when using the PowerCube I could safely sit the phone on the empty side which was another space saver.
The PowerMat itself is worthless without some of the PowerMat accessories. The PowerCube is a great one to start with as it is a universal charger with 7 different adapters so it will charge most cellphones. It simply sits on the PowerMat and you plug in your device. We have used it for cellphones and MP3 players. The pieces come in a handy drawstring bag which you can store away in you desk drawer for the odd time you need to charge a visiting friend's phone or you change phones. The PowerCube also has a handy storage space inside it (which wasn't in the instructions but was in the photos) that can hold a couple of adapters so would be good for the devices you charge with it regularly.
Unfortunately the PowerCube would not charge two of the main devices we have in our house: the iPad2 and iPhone5. There is an apple adapter but although it fits the iPad2 the IPad2 is too power hungry to charge with this so the adapter would be best for iPods and the older iPhones. For the iPhone5 to work with the PowerMat I will need to purchase a special case for it which I probably will do even though it is $70 as it will be very convenient and I won't even need to plug it in.
I can't wait until the next time our family goes away. We will only have to have the PowerMat and PowerCube combo with us and we are set for charging the phones. There is always someone that forgets their charger so I will be the hero that saves the day with this gadget.
