Jack Russell: Dog Detective Books 1 - 3 product reviews

Dogs understand what humans say.
Humans think they understand what dogs say.
Therefore, dogs are smarter than humans.
That is a fact.

Jack Russell lives with his landlord, Sarge, in Doggeroo. Sarge detects human-type crimes. Jack detects important crimes. That means the ones that deal with dogs. Whenever there's a mystery that needs solving, Jack is the dog for the job. Though he is often hampered by the well-meaning but bumbling Red, he always manages to sniff out the truth in the end.

It has taken us a wee while to finally read the whole book. This is because, first attempt, the book did not really catch the attention of miss 7, and unfortunately I struggled to get into the zone lol I initially found the book hard to read as it is written, umm by a dog haha so to speak. So unfortunately we did not even read an entire paragraph before quitting.

A week later, we tried again, and this time we really enjoyed the book. Although still a little bit hard to read it from a dog point of view, once you get over that confusion, its a good story. The Jack Russell dog detective series are light hearted series, about a Jack Russell, named Jack, who lives in Doggeroo with his human friend Sarge. Sarge also happens to be a policeman too. So when things (mysteries) happen, and Sarge is not available to solve them...it then falls on Jack, dog detective, to solve the mystery.

As much as I did not really enjoy the book, miss 7 did end up liking it, which is what matters. It is a simply written book really, with simple pencil drawings through-out, and of course most little girls, like my own, love dogs...especially small ones.

All in all this is a cute story and book for young readers, and as you get 3 stories from the series in one book, it is even better. Such a brilliant price for 3 stories.

We have just finished reading this 3 book set for our bedtime story this week. This is a set of books about a dog who lives with a policeman and his adventures being a dog detective. He has a group of doggie friends who help and hinder his investigations. There are also humans who are provide help and special biscuits and well.

These books are really fun. They are written from the dog's point of view, and so you get a little insight into how they might think or talk to each other. Jack includes a glossary of terms every now and then, as he doggifies some words. There is also fun little nose maps where you can see what he is smelling and dog facts too. The facts are sometimes very funny.

We found this book really entertaining. My daughter spent some time pretending to be a dog and playing at making her own nose maps. This is quite a sizable book thanks to the three stories together. For $16 getting this set is great value, since usually the books go for about $10 each. If you have a dog fan at home, boy or girl I think would enjoy these stories. This would make a great gift and a great one to read along to a younger child getting into chapter book or for an older child reading independently.
