Product reviews...
I purchased this for my 8 year old niece last Christmas, as she had especially asked for it and with her being so arty and creative I thought that it would actually make an ideal gift for her and since she lives in Australia, only coming to New Zealand for the school holidays I thought this would be a great gift to keep her busy for the several weeks she was to be over for. How wrong was I!!! As other reviewers have said this was definitely one of those gimmicky presents, which are made to look absolutely amazing on tv commercials.
While my niece loved it while it lasted she was soon left dissapointed as the gel pens, sticker sheets, gems and decorations soon came to an end, running out after just a few days. She was soon asking to go to the shops to buy some refill packs as nothing that came with the Geleez Design studio was reusable, a definite ploy to get you to go out and spend more money on this product.
It was easy enough for my niece to use and she had no problems at all applying the gel herself and loved being able to make all of the family members there own special things with her personal touch, however it was a bit frustrating for her having to wait quite a long time for the Geleez to try. The stickers had a real good adhesive to them and seemed to stick well to everything.
I have since bought her several more packs for her birthday and she is still excited and wanting to use this toy each time she comes over, though at $20 a pack it can be rather costly. I do wonder if perhaps Geleez are slowly phasing out off the shelves as when she was visiting from Perth in the school holidays just gone we were at Toy World we saw the refills for $5 a pack which was a massive saving, which we obviously took the opportunity to stock up on.
A cool idea to foster creativity and imagination just sadly like most things such as these the refills are rather costly!
Once again draw our kids in with all the hype about this product on tv , so has soon as my daughter seen this she kept asking for us to buy her one. So we went in hunt for these and was horrified as to the price, bit overpriced for what it is! Luckily I had occurred enough flybuys to cash in and get her one for christmas, however she was sadly dissappointed, you have to buy refill kits of stickers and gel as you can't reuse the stickers, and the refills are about half the price as the original kit!
My daughter found it hard to use and lost interest real quick and I ended up doing it myself, we had some glow in the dark gel with it and it never glowed. Not sure if it was because we didn't apply it thick enough or something else we were doing wrong.
So overall very disappointed with the product as really for what you get certainly isn't good value for money, Unless you want to part out a fortune for the refills, it's really just a one use product and will end up sitting around collecting dust . Maybe if it was cheaper might make it more appealing.
My daughter begged and begged for a Geleez Design Studio...television can sell anything to a kid. They see it, want it, even if they have no idea what it even is lol As she loves art and creating it is important that I try to encourage this as much as possible. Not only for her learning and development but also because I know how important art is to her. It is her passion. It drives her.
So off we went to get her her Geleez Design Studio. What a simple yet effective invention these were. Nothing spectaculat to be honest. But for a little girl who loves art, colour, and stickers...she was over-joyed. Her plain liht pink bedside lamp soon became a spectacular work of art, as did her bed head and mirror.
It waa a simple easy to use toy that kept her happily colouring and sticking for an entire afternoon. But (because there is often a 'but' lol) once she had created and decorated what she wanted....that was the end of it for her. She got her studio out a couple more times after that but without a constant supply of packs it soon lost its appeal. The geleez stickers however stayed well attached to het lamp, and the ones on her head-board and mirror were easily moved around which she was very pleased about. This is a great novelty toy but one that children neex to be in the mood for colour to be any fun.
This was another toy my daughter got for christmas last year. It was another toy that had that 'cool toy' factor and was advertised everywhere but in our eyes turned out to be not so great. You get everything you need to get started which is just the bare essentials and then you can buy extra packs to keep you going.
The extra packs are about $20 each so it is quite expensive. We bought a couple of refill packs and that was about it so turned out to be quite gimmicky really. The original pack lasted my daughter a couple of days. The pens lasted longer but the stickers ran out. Each refill pack would only last a day as you get less stickers in the refill packs than you do in the starter pack.
The way these work is you use the gel pens to decorate the provided stickers. The stickers are clear and the gel dries on the stickers like a nail polish. It is almost like doing those little stain glass things I used to do when I was little. The one thing I would recommend is that you do it at a table with newspaper down as it is not like paint it dries like a varnish and once dry it is practically impossible to get off.
Children of about 5 and up could do these easily but it was still fun for my 10 year old and she enjoyed decorating all her school books with the stickers at the beginning of the year.
