The emerging New Zealand artisan butter market has expanded with the release of Whitestone Butter by Al Brown. The iconic Whitestone Cheese and well-known chef and restaurateur Al Brown have collaborated to launch three terrific tasting butters; Salted, Unsalted and Manuka Smoked, freshly churned from premium North Otago cream.
Simon and Bob Berry of Whitestone Cheese worked with Al Brown for 12 months developing their premium product. Created with the same cultures that Whitestone have been making their award winning cheeses with for decades, the butter is made fresh and churned in small individual batches, with all natural ingredients.
It is indulgent, with a smooth luxurious texture and a full cream flavour. The rich yellow colour reflects the quality of the cream it has been made with. It is butter that tastes, and looks, like butter should.

We were away last weekend and a friend suggested we try this butter. With a lack of interesting ways to try it at first, we just had it on toast. The flavour came through really nice, its strong but not overpowering. This gave me the idea that it would make a good 'garlic' bread (minus the garlic!).
I attempted to cook some chicken in a pan using this butter instead of oil, but the flavour of the butter was lost and the chicken didn't have any extra smokey taste. This was disappointing as I had thought that it would work well and we would have smokey chicken for the salad.
When we arrived home I brought a ciabatta loaf and buttered it and put it in the oven for 15 or so minutes, this by far was the best use of the butter yet! Y-U-M!
I love the packaging of this butter, it seems very exclusive and gourmet. Al Brown is a fantastic asset to New Zealand and combined with Whitestone Cheese makers, this is a true wee New Zealand Gem. Fantastic to use at a dinner party when you want to add something extra to the entree. Although this is slightly more expensive than normal butter, it is well worth it as it really takes the dish to the next level!.

In French, it's the 'Hunter's Sauce', but your hunt is over. This glossy rich savoury sauce, made with a splash of white wine, is the simple way to create a classic French dish. Partner it with chicken thigh meat, add mushrooms and voila, it's bon appetite!
