Bath-time turns into a fantastical adventure in the hands of two of children's literature's best.
Margaret Mahy and Steven Kellogg, two the world's most beloved picture book creators, are reunited for this galloping, free-spirited romp. It begins with Sammy, whose obnoxious neighbours get to go to the beach in their brand new boat, while he has to get clean for a visit from grandma.
Worse, it's a bath in the strange tub his dad just bought at a tag sale! But the magic of the tub soon has Sammy roaring out to sea, befriending a giant sea serpent, conquering pirates in a huge soapy battle, and returning home with the greatest of treasures. Bath time will never be the same! (Plus Grandma's got surprises of her own!)
Hardback colour illustrated picture book. Ages four years plus.
Product reviews...
I asked to review this book cause it looked fun and neat just by the cover and well I'm not disappointed at all. Its a fun books the illustrations are very well done by a very talented Steven Kellogg. My daughter who is almost 5 loves the bath as its green and its her favourite colour. Dad brings home a bath and off they go. There are pirates and she thought that was good, nice little adventure before it was home back. Of course being a huge fan of Margaret Mahy I have enjoyed this book.
I like how the cover jumps out and you and the words are shiny, I however don't like the dust sleeve, I have never liked these and they fall off and the kids find it hard to get back on, so it will be coming off our book and being put away. Overall its a great book and I would recommend it to children that love adventures :)
I absolutely loved this book. My Miss Five is very much into pirates so I knew this would appeal to her and right from the cover this is a great, good quality book. As it is a hard back it has a dust cover which has an eye-catching illustration and "The Green Bath" in shiny big letters. The cover without the dust cover is the same. The illustrations are absolutely brilliant. When you open the book there is a double sided illustration that sets the scene for the book with Dad buying The Green Bath. The book then begins with Sammy outside playing in the back yard with the pirates. His dad comes home with the green bath at the same time as the next door neighbour comes home with a very flashy boat.
What follows next is a very good example of how the simplest of things can give you much more fun than having something flash and modern and with a little imagination (or perhaps not...) Sammy proceeds to have an amazing adventure. My girls absolutely love this. The illustration's are just brilliant but so is the story. A very fun book to read and I am so pleased to have a copy of such a marvellous book. I can definitely recommend this book to anyone with a child who has an imagination or loves pirates and adventure. Brilliant!!
