My 6 and 8 year old daughters discovered Lego Friends when they had some birthday money to burn and I wanted them to buy something that would last and not 'rubbish' that would either break or sit on the shelf unused! The Lego Friends range is targeted at girls 5 years and older and consists of play sets featuring birthday parties, the amusement park, adventure camp, the supermarket and so on. Each kits contains at least one girl character (there are several to collect) and vary in size from small kits of 50 pieces to larger kits with 1100+ pieces. They start at around $7 for the smaller kits and increase in price accordingly. The kits come with detailed instructions and although my girls were OK putting the smaller kits together, they did buy the Pop Star Tour Bus (682 pieces) which required some help from dad (he secretly loved it!)
The advantages of these kits is that they are fun and get the girls building and creating. We have piled all the kits into a storage bin (saves treading on them and the vacuum getting them!) which means they can use their imagination to make fun things and modify the kits they have. The kits have cute accessories such as dogs, rabbits, horses, microphones and lots of fun stuff to play with. The downside to these kits are that once you've assembled it, if you don't keep a track of the pieces, it's game over! There are lots of really, really, REALLY small pieces that just seem to 'disappear' so remaking kits can be hard. Another disadvantage is that the kits contain only the correct amount of pieces for that set and there are no additional 'building' pieces. We bought 2 Lego Creative Supplement kits which come in the same pink, purple, light blue colour spectrum, but even these kits lack a suitable number of 2 x 4 pieces that you need to build with.
Overall, my girls love Lego Friends and play with it every day. I have started to add different ranges (Lego City and Creator) to mix it up a little bit but overall, Lego Friends is a great range for girls and has really piqued their interest into seeing what they can create. Highly recommended!
My 7 year old daughter only just discovered lego friends just before Christmas 2013, which of course was a bonus for 'Santa'. Lego friends is 'girls' lego. Fun playsets aimed at the little girls in your life. There are people and animals and most playsets come with buildings/houses and other accessories. They range in size (number of pieces) from the little animal sets which have enough pieces to make the animal and its home and includes maybe a toy and bowl or food depending on the animal to larger playsets with people and boats/ships etc.
The small animal packs are perfect as treats or stocking stuffers and are my daughters favourite sets. They range in price from around $6-$11 depending on where you shop. The pieces are quite small and fiddly but miss 7 was able to successfully put them together. And sets can join together with other sets to make even bigger playsets. Each pack comes with easy to follow instructions that miss 7 was able to read and follow wighout needing to much, if any, adult help.
The only major issue is if your set gets taken apart and you no longer have the instruction leaflet, it can be quite hard to figure out how to put it back together. Also some of the pieces are very small and easily luxed up, which can result in some of the people missing their hair (sorry missy lol). So it is important that when the children/child has finished playing, ALL pieces are packed away carefully. It is also important that babies and toddlers are not given these sets to play with.
They really are lovely little sets, with plenty of lovely girly colours that little girls can easily spend hours playing with :)
This is a great little range of Lego for the girls. It is great that you get the Lego quality but in a range of girls colours and designs as Lego has predominantly been made in boys designs in the past and unisex colours. My daughter has always played with Lego but since this range came out she has been a lot more interested in it.
The playsets are very cool you get a character with each one and something to build. My daughters favourite is the Heartlake dog show which has a lots of pet show themed accesories like a see-saw and a couple of little dogs. The sets for her age group are real easy to put together and have clear instructions. For my niece who is only 5 they are a bit more difficult but luckily for her she has two older brothers to help her with the instructions.
It would be cool to see the range increased and the pink, purple coloured bricks available in bulk packs so you can build even bigger creations. A great range of Lego which has been a hit in our house.
