I love Easter and Hot Cross Buns... well this fruit free version anyway. The smell of the spices and cinnamon as you open up the packet is just so hard to resist, and seeing that there is a fruit free 'Smooth' version on the market suits me just perfect as I have to admit I am not the biggest fan of raisins and sultanas though I will eat them if need be.
I couldn't wait to get these home from the supermarket and heat them up in the oven until they were warm and crisp so that I could top them with a dollop of warm melted butter. This is exactly what I did when I got home, and although I loved them, my partner seemed to have his alarm bells going off as the raisins and sultanas were missing and these are his favourite part of the buns, luckily I knew this may be the case so had also brought a packet of the original Hot cross Buns.
Not only have these been a hit with me but they are also great welcomed at daycare centres I have worked at over Easter as a lot of children don't enjoy the buns with the sultanas and raisins but love the smooth ones, this way they feel as though they are not missing out on this Easter treat. We often buy these in bulk over Easter so we can freeze them and enjoy them year round, they seem to always seem so fresh when we do this and re still great to eat.
You can always count on Natures Fresh products being really fresh, I have never had a problem with this. They are great fresh or toasted and also make a great change of bread in a bread and butter pudding or to french toast. A yummy treat I look forward to enjoying every year at Easter for a very long time.
Woo-hoo its nearly Easter time again meaning I eat these delicious hot cross buns again! First things first, I love these buns and I would easily recommend them to anyone - whether you are buying for yourself or your children.
Personally I have always liked hot cross buns but I guess I was one of those annoying fussy children because I can distinctively remember picking out all the sultana's and peel when mum served these up. At the same time I can also remembering turning down eating them (especially when at relatives or friends houses) - though they smelt so good I didn't want to have to sit there and pick everything out. Here we are 25years later and I still would much rather prefer hot cross buns without all the bits!
I love toasting these hot cross buns in the oven or toaster so when you put the butter on it melts everywhere - a little bit naughty but hey its only Easter once a year so it makes it okay These are also great fresh and can be a great lunch box filler. Knowing these don't have the peel and fruit a.k.a lumps in them means I can let my daughter (7months) try them out and know she isn't going to choke on the lumps. So far she has liked the taste and will suck on the better half of half a bun until its gone.
Much like all Nature's Fresh products you can count on them that their products are fresh and are reasonably priced - something that most people appreciate I'm certain. The taste is awesome and it wouldn't be Easter without them. A product I recommend to others and know we will be continuing to buy year after year
We love Easter and Hot Cross Buns in this house. Or at least us adults do. Every Easter we stock up so we can have delicious toasted hot cross buns for breakfast over and over again. I love the spicy smell and the sultanas, as well as the naughty amounts of hot melty butter. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. However, we have kids and they are not big fans of spicy and sultanas in their bread.
Because they are fussy, we have bought different hot cross buns to please them. Being the sort of consumer who really can't walk past a new style of product, when I saw these I had to buy them. The packaging is cute. I loved the Easter Egg motif and even the window to look at the product is egg shaped. I also liked that there as that clear section so you could see the product. I like to be able to check in and make sure what I'm buying is going to be fresh.
I got these hot and split them open for lunch. I used our sand press to toast them and then added butter. My eldest daughter ate the butter and some of the bun but she wasn't overly impressed. My youngest daughter enjoyed the bread though, and ate most of what she was given. I enjoyed the buns but I did miss the sultanas. I didn't miss not having peel in there though and I found these less "sandy" as some hot cross buns can be.
These buns are perfect for fussy children that don't like all the fruit and peel like traditionally hot cross buns my daughter being one of them. After watching very painfully picking out all the sultanas in the traditional hot cross buns I decided to get these for her and she absolutely loves them.
They taste just like a hot cross bun does just without the fruit. I personally like the fruit and my son doesnt mind the fruit either but I have been buying these ones to keep my daughter happy and no one else seems to mind having them without the fruit. They are actually cheaper than the natures fresh traditional hot cross buns which is good because you arent getting the fruit so they should be cheaper.
They are really fresh in the packet every time I have bought them, so you can eat them either fresh or toasted. I love having them toasted as as they are heating the fill the room with the smell of all the spices inside the bun. They make a great treat in the lunchboxes too or as breakfast instead of toast.
