The Disgusting Sandwich product reviews

Is this the most disgusting sandwich ever? It's sandy, goopy, squishy, sluggy and slimy. But one very hungry badger still wants to eat it... or does he? A gloriously yucky story, with a wicked twist in the tale.

Children's colour illustrated, soft cover.

What does it take for you to be turned off a sandwich? Being dropped in some sand or what about being ran over by a scooter all of these options and more are discussed in this very funny book. At first I was feeling sorry for the badger but by the end of the story the only thing I felt sorry was for the disgusting sandwich and how no one or nothing would want to eat the poor thing.

The pictures are very well done and so much is happening in them. I do like the new and exciting ways the badger makes a move on the sandwich especially bungee jumping from a kite. They are very detailed. The story is nice and simple and repetitive in the sandwich mayhem that occurs to it. My daughter loves reading it to her sister and they both laugh at the ending when the badger even says the sandwich is disgusting. Its the sort of book you can read over and over again and does not get old.

A great book that will be treasured for some time to come and even now when I read it I still smile at the ending. Well worth the money spent on it especially considering the pictures are extremely fun and are great for 'can you find this?' games. Just a lovely family book.

Well we have had this book for a couple of weeks now and it has grown on me considerably. The cover shows a badger with a very disgusting sandwich questioning if "you" would eat this sandwich and then the story goes into how the sandwich came to be quite so disgusting before it ended up in Badgers hands.

This is a typically English themed book (foxes, badgers, squirrels, pigeons etc) and each page just reminded me of England. The illustrations are brilliant and very funny and there is a lot to look at. Miss Two likes me reading this to her and Miss Four and Miss Six like to read this to themselves (Miss Four "reads" the pictures). This book does get us going on talking about all sorts of disgusting sandwiches and what we would eat if we were a badger! I like books that accumulate as this is great for children's memory and Miss Six especially is brilliant at remembering each incident that contributes to the making of the "disgusting sandwich"

I think that this is brilliant for the age 3 years and up and would definitely recommend it especially if you like English themed books.

The Moment I saw The Disgusting Sandwich the teacher inside me could tell that it was a book that I would love to share with the kids. The subject and the illustrations lend themselves so well to discussion with the children which will only help their language development. The subtitle "Would you eat this sandwich?" got Miss 4.5 hooked before she had opened the book. When we got home she went straight up to her father and asked him.

It is a familiar style of accumulative writing. The sandwich starts off as a basic peanut butter sandwich which is dropped and picked up by different animals and as this happens gets covered in a range of stomach-churning objects. This is obviously not a story most adults want to read before a meal but the children loved it, the grosser the better for them.

The animals are very British. We are unlikely to have a fox or a badger in a New Zealand playground but it doesn't distract from the story. For some children this may be their first introduction to a badger who lurks on every page. This would be a great book to hook boys into and they could even help design their own disgusting sandwich on paper or with play dough.
