I remember when The Full Monty first came out, everyone was talking about it. I just had to see it too. I have since rented it a couple of times on DVD and seen it on TV. I can never again hear "You Can Leave Your Hat On" without thinking of a striptease. Although the main appeal to most women is the male striptease act it is actually only a very small part of the movie.
There are so many serious issues addressed in this movie including redundancy, depression, obesity and suicide. The basic plot is a group of unemployed men from a working class town desperate for an income create a striptease show. There are so many moments in this movie where I was laughing so hard especially when these uncoordinated men are trying to learn to dance.
To be honest it is a movie for women. Most men won't enjoy it as much but then they aren't as eager to see men strip. It is done very tastefully but it is not a movie for children also due to the working class language.
Times have been tough and Gaz is facing problems with his ex-wife and keeping up child support payments. He and his friend Dave come up with a plan to start a striptease act after seeing posters up in town, to try and raise money so that he can catch up on payments.
Cue the laughs as six unemployed men, from different walks of life try and work together to create a good striptease dance routine without anyone finding out about it going on (especially wives and mums ) While none of these gents have the 'perfect' bodies, the manage to pull it off very well. They're perfectly awkward at times, making you cringe along with them. As things progress they all manage to figure out things in their own life as well as becoming good friends.
This is a fun movie centred on a dad wanting to do right by his son in an unusual way. It's a good night at the movies, and a fun time.
