We have had this DVD for a couple of weeks now and it is still a huge hit. When I first brought it home I was hoping it would keep my five girls aged 2-6 quiet after a two hour walk. Well that didn't happen as this is the first DVD that my girls have danced their way through the entirety of. No staring blankly at the screen watching this. This somehow has tapped into the dance zone and my girls just love dancing to this and following the actions.
All my girls love the Wiggles but they always feel a bit short-changed when we go to the shows as Dorothy, Wags and Henry have such small roles. This Dorothy the Dinosaur DVD hits the spot. with them. A whole hour of Dorothy, Wags, Henry, Captain Feathersword and dancers performing and singing lots of the Wiggles hits.
I wasn't sure with the original Wiggles leaving that I would be looking out for any new Wiggles related DVD's but after having this I have to say I will now be looking out for other Dorothy the Dinosaur DVD's as this is just brilliant. I love that it is all performed on one set. There is a small studio audience but the focus is the performers. There are 21 songs and all have subtitles so I liked being able to follow the words as my girls often hear them quite wrong!!
We have watched this so many times I have to recommend it. I like that this is something that Miss Two, Miss Four and Miss Six can all watch together and enjoy so this gets top marks in our house as a sure fire winner.
My girls, four and nearly three, are huge fans of the Wiggles. They both love Dorothy the Dinosaur because of her dancing and also probably because she is the only female of all The Wiggles characters. We have loads of Wiggles DVDs (I would be too embarrassed to count them all) and have seen Dorothy's TV show a few times. When i bought this DVD home they were very keen to watch it.
This DVD was different to the TV show. It was a live stage show. The whole thing was recorded in front of an audience of toddlers and their parents with no changes to the set. The songs were all very familiar Wiggles ones but often sounded a bit different because they weren't sung by The Wiggles. the girls didn't seem to mind this because The Wiggles characters were in it.
It was great to see Wags, Henry and Captain Feathersword joining Dorothy along with three human singer/dancers. I was pleasantly surprised to see Paul Paddick playing his famous clowning role as The Captain. In the TV episodes we'd seen another actor had taken the part. It also had Jeff Wiggle doing the voice of Henry. Anthony Wiggle wrote the show too. It will be interesting to see if we see more of this type of work from the original Wiggles now they are retiring from the stage.
My girls really enjoyed the DVD and were singing, giggling and dancing throughout. They also really enjoyed the time lapse clip of setting up the set (I suppose it is the modern day equivalent of playing the record on the wrong speed) which gave them a valuable lessen in what it takes to transform the stage. They have already requested to watch it again and it has only been 24 hours.
