Product reviews...
Earthwise Dishwasher Gel this has to be one of the best products I have stumbled across in a long time. I wouldn't normally stray from the tried and true when it comes to dishwashers. I don't mean I am brand loyal, I simply mean, that I have always used the powder and I have seen no reason to stray from the powder.
The Earthwise Dishwasher Gel recommended the use of their dishwasher cleaner before it was used to get rid of the chemicals. That made sense to me so we followed the instructions. - We are on tank water, so the dishwasher only goes on once a day. Just to give it a true test I made lasagne and I got the kids to stack the dishwasher, knowing things wouldn't be 'well' stacked - nor would they be rinsed off!
Come the morning we pulled the dishes out and they were really clean, my glasses sparkled and the plates were fresh and white. What was also noticeable was the lack of chemical smell. The dishwasher was pleasant to open and I was really impressed with the cleanliness of the dishes. The 'problems' with this product is being able to measure the right amount, I just estimated, I think I used less than recommended with a great result. I have been using it for a week now, and I have my squirt down to a fine art.
I have to say that I have a brand new container of the dishwasher powder and I haven't wanted to use it. I think I am going to give it to my mother as I am really loving this gel, and I will become brand loyal to it. - No chemicals, no smell and super clean dishes, a must have household item!
We've had a dishwasher for a number of years now and have tried many different type of washing formulas, from powder to those little powerball type tablets, and we still hadn't found a really good one, well we hadn't until now.
We normally user powder as we worked out it was cheaper to use powder than the tablets, and the powder generally seemed to to a good job of cleaning the dishes, but lately it seemed as if the formula had changed or something as the dishes weren't getting cleaned as good, and we were getting some powder left in the dispenser that had congealed into a nasty paste. So it was with high hopes that I grabbed the bottle read the instructions and away I went.
The first issue I has was that our dishwasher doesn't have any line in the dispenser, so I had to wing it with the amount I was putting in from the instructions on the bottle, and to be honest I think I used a bit too much the first few times, however as this is a gel formula it doesn't really matter that much if you use a little too much as it quite happily washes itself down the drain, and it doesn't leave any nasty residue on the dishes.
Once I had the measurements right I did a little experimenting. First off I rinsed all the dishes as you would normally do for a dishwasher, put in the required amount of gel and off it went. 90 odd minutes later it was done and the dishes looked spectacular. After a few goes of this I tried a couple of plates that hadn't been rinsed quite so well (okay it had been left out for a couple of hours and the food was kinda baked on), so in the washer they went, and one cycle later they were just as clean as the others. It was at this point that I got thoroughly impressed as normally I would have to rinse those plates off again and give them a hand wash.
All up this is a great product and I will certainly be replacing my current powder with this product now.
I was impressed with the Earthwise Dishwasher Cleaner so decided to use the Earthwise Baking Soda Dishwasher Gel in my next lot of dishes. I do a load about every two days in my dishwasher so have probably now done about 7 washes using this Gel.
The bottle contains 520ml and it claims to do 26 washes. I think that works out to be about 40 cents a wash? I am not sure how this compares to my normal powder but will look out for this on special. The instructions recommend using 20ml or just under the first line. I have lines in my dispenser so just filled up to just below the line. This was easy to put in the dispenser but because it is liquid I found I had to immediately stick the dishwasher on to wash when I shut the door, otherwise if I waited (because I got distracted from the next step of turning the dishwasher on...! ) the gel just disappeared into the drain.
With my usual dishwashing powder I often have to rinse my dishes when I remove them from the dishwasher as they have residue on them. I had no problems with this gel. My dishes are all sparkling, squeeky clean and have no residue or smell at all. My glassware on the top shelf is all streak free and sparkling. My pot lids on the bottom shelf aren't cleaning as well (they have residue on them) but it is good enough for me and I can't be sure that this isn't an issue with my dishwasher as opposed to the product!
All my plates and crockery are so clean. What I love most is that this product leaves no residue or smell and I don't have to rinse off all my baby bottles/cups etc.
I am completely sold on this product and will continue to use it as I love that it is New Zealand Made and not as toxic as my normal powder. I can definitely recommend that you try it.
Since I don't really use my dishwasher as I find it just as easy to wash my dishes by hand being on me and 2 young kids, but when i have guests something to make my dish washing load easier is always welcomed in my house. So I thought after I gave the dishwasher a clean it was time to give this product a go and see how it goes, at first I though something was wrong with my dishwasher but cause i have square plates the flap wasn't opening to let the gel out and around the dishwasher so once i worked that out we tried again and used it for a week to get a good review for it.
So I first tried without rinsing my dishes wasnt a hard load and it worked well, i then rinsed my dishes the next night and it worked better. The only thing I'm not happy about is that my glassware come out with a film on it, they look dirtier than what they were when they went in, so i stopped putting them in the dishwasher. I have done about 7 loads with the gel with 20mls in each load, and only used 1/4 of the bottle, the bottle is a good shape and will let you get all the gel out. I have gone back to washing dishes by hand cause there is never enough. But the gel is there waiting for when I need the dishwasher again.
So for me who only uses a dishwasher every so often the price would be good as I wont be going though it in a week or two. If I was using it everyday not sure i would pay that much to be honest. It is a great gel and does a great job (apart from my glasses) so I would suggest this to friends
I was really interested in reviewing this dish-washing gel, i had never seen a gel designed for the dishwasher before. I have used the tablets, sachets and normal powder and tend to buy what eve cheapest which seems to be powder the majority of the time. I was quiet sceptical about how good this was going to work, being a gel and and eco friendly product, i wasn't sure how well it would get my greasy dishes clean! The packaging looks great and i love that it has the lid at the bottom so there is no need to shake it!
I have been using this for a week and a half now and am half way through the bottle. I use the dishwasher at least once a day and put everything in it - even pots/pans and my slow cooker bowl. I am super surprised at the results! Everything has come out just as clean as it normally would including the slow cooker bowl which is the worst one for cleaning as the food tends to bake to the sides of it.
I normally use a 65 degree wash, but have also trialled this on the quick 30 minute cycle and it works brilliantly. Glasses are streak-free and it doesn't leave any fragrant smells which I like as I'm not into scented plates or cutlery! There is no residue feeling left on anything, its just nice and clean and the dishes also dry well using this, where as some other ones I have used the dishes don't dry as well.
I'm not sure that i will get the full 26 washes as stated on the bottle, i guess its pretty hard to measure correctly. My dishwasher has a line indicating 20 and 30 mls but when trying to measure at the low level of the dishwasher its hard to be spot on. The flow from the bottle is steady but constant and not too fast so you don't loose any product.
I'm a really impressed with this product, i wouldn't buy it full price as i like to keep my grocery bill down, but if it was on special i would consider it as an option for us. If you're looking for an excellent eco friendly cleaner then this is a product you should try - it ticks all the boxes for me!
I've always gone with the easy way when it comes to our dishwasher. I use the powder blocks and haven't really strayed from that format before. So for this review I opened my mind to a liquid possibility.
Like other Earthwise products, the packaging is nice and clean. I like the leaf motifs and the easy to read font. It is clearly labelled to do approximately 26 washes. So if you get that out of a bottle then at $10.99 that is fairly reasonable. I think I pay twice that (or more) for a box of 60 powder blocks.
I like that this product is plant based. As I start to wash things my baby will be eating from, it becomes a bit more important to me to limit her chemical exposure. The smell of the product is quite abrasive with the baking soda.
When I squeezed the bottle to get some out, the liquid was really yucky looking. It was lumpy and came out in a long gel-like string. I set up the dishwasher and let it go. When the dishes came out, they were really nicely clean. There was no particular smell.
I have used it a couple of times and find it just as easy to use as the powder. I do like to have a nice fragrance after the dishes are clean, but I'm happy that they are clean. The two washes don't appear to have made much of a dent in the bottle either.
