Product reviews...
I wanted to give this product a good test before I wrote this review up, for reasons I will explain below. That is why my review is a lot later than it should be.
When I first opened this, I wasn't too sure about the smell, but it felt good on dry lips and seemed to have a good effect on the cracks. As it gets older, skin loses it vitality, dries out and loses it's ability to cope with climate shifts. I have always found that in early spring and early autumn my lips dry out and crack badly, often bleeding.
This was nice and soft, so it didn't open up the splits as I put it on and it also managed to put a thin layer inside the splits shallow enough it didn't hurt but deep enough to seal it over and offer a protective barrier against the wind. Within a few days I noticed a big difference. My lips felt softer but more resilient and didn't hurt when I smiled. This was a blessing for me as nothing looks worse than an old Maori standing at the front door with blood on his lips and grinning like a maniac.
Because it is a very soft formulae and my lips were very bad, I went through a lot of it in a short amount of time. This makes it less effective for me. But I have decided that this would be good to have around for the early days of the seasonal shift to help soften and repair my lips enough that the cheaper sticks won't tear my lips apart as I apply them. So one stick of this twice a year might be a good investment for me.
My only gripe was the sticker seal. Being so clear, it was hard to see and I thought it might have been perforated so that just twisting the cap would break it loose. It didn't. So I tried to push the cap up by twisting the end that pushed the stick up but all I got with that was the soft stick oozing up and over the rim and being forced back down the cap. What a mess. In the end I had to just tear the whole label off and then try to cram as much of the stick mush back into the main body and hope it firmed up again. So, my only real negative about this wasn't so much about the product, as the choice of packaging.
I have used lipbalm all my life. Its something that I always get in my Christmas stocking. My lips get dry in summer and even winter can have a terrible effect on my poor lips. I was excited to try Mynx Lip Balm because it says it is natural, which is important to me considering how much of the balm gets swallowed!
The packaging on this product is very simple. The sticker has the product name, some cute flowers and a list of ingredients. The label was really clear and easy to read. Even the ingredients were listed in a good sized font. As promised, the list didn't include anything sciencey sounding.
I liked that this also came with a security sticker around the lid. Made me feel reassured that no one else has played with it before I got to use it. The sticker was easy enough to remove and I could use this product straight away.
I applied it to my lips and immediately noticed the yummy smell of beeswax. The balm slides onto your lips really nicely and is a greasy style. I prefer that type to the ones where there is too much wax in the mix and the balm comes out waxy and sticky. I applied some on my daughter she said it felt nice on her lips. I also planted a few kisses on baby (actually quite by accident, I forgot about the balm) but she had no reaction to the balm.
I've been using it all week and I noticed that even where my lip had gotten rough from my near constant cold, that skin has softened considerably. I noticed on first application, the roughness was still there but the skin had softened. This is a really nice quality lip balm.
I am a fan of this. With only five ingredients what's not to love. Cocoa butter, shea butter, sweet almond oil, canauba wax and beeswax. This is one of the best lip balms I have come across. It doesn't leave my lips feeling more dry after use and for the first time in ages I feel like I have a balm that actually locks in the moisture rather than leaching it out. Miss Five and I both have terribly dry lips and she loves this too. Her lips have definitely become much better and are less dry and chapped after using this.
Because this is all natural I feel really happy to let my children use this. It is also nice to have a stick that is healing as well with using the almond oil.
The stick itself is great and unlike some brands this stick is all balm. I would definitely recommend trying this if you have dry lips. Whilst it doesn't have an SPF rating that's okay as this is just brilliant. I would be happy to pay $8 for this because of how good it is.
