Go the F**k to Sleep is a bedtime book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes don't always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland.
Profane, affectionate, and radically honest, California Book Award-winning author Adam Mansbach's verses perfectly capture the familiar-and unspoken-tribulations of putting your little angel down for the night. In the process, they open up a conversation about parenting, granting us permission to admit our frustrations, and laugh at their absurdity.
With illustrations by Ricardo Cortes, Go the F**k to Sleep is beautiful, subversive and pants-wettingly funny - a book for parents new, old and expectant. You probably should not read it to your children.

Everytime I see this title I cant help but laugh....not a 'laugh out loud' laugh but a quiet 'finally someone who wasn't scared to put it into a book' laugh.
As a parent we can all relate to this book, the humor and the truth hitting home as you read through every page.
Go the F**k to sleep is an honest take on bedtime routines for parents and children. And something all parents can relate too, whether they wish to admit it or not.
The illustrations are funny, and beautifully illustrated. The story line, as stated already is honest, but in such a humorous way that you can not help but laugh.
Definitely one for the bookshelf, but not really a bedtime story for the children. My tweenager however did read it, and then turned and said to me, "Oh mum, I'm sorry" then he laughed out loud and walked out of the room! That night...he just would not go to sleep, Grrrrr, hehehe
Would be the perfect gift also for those who have everything already, or anyone who is about to embark on parenting
Two thumbs up from me.
I think every parent needs a copy of this book - to hide on the top shelf along with the gin! This is a crude and honest book, that states what every (i hope) parent has thought at some stage in their parenting career! Its so humorous as it's using the phrase 'go the f*** to sleep' in an everyday calm and carefree manner
People say children should come with a handbook - this also should be included. The pictures are good - they could be better but its the wording and words that makes the overall effect of the book. The price is good, makes for a funny baby shower gift!
This book is great as its so unique, never before have i seen a picture book of this genre that is aimed solely for parents.
I read this recently, and laughed heartily through-out the whole thing. Let's face it, no matter how calm you remain on the outside as a parent, you might be silently screaming the title of this book at your kids even tonight. The book itself is set out exactly like a kid's bedtime picture book. But it's absolutely not safe for kids, especially the ones who can read.
I enjoyed the verses. They were funny and I did laugh out loud for most of it. They flowed well for the page they were on, but didn't have the same page to page flow I expected. The art was actually really cool. A kid-friendly re-write and I would totally show the illustrations to my daughter. Couldn't do it at the moment cos she'd want me to read it and I'm not very imaginative in the spur of a moment.
I wouldn't personally own this, in case it fell into the wrong hands. However, I still see the value as a good gift to new parents. Hey, us parents have all been there after all!
This is far from being a kids book, despite the style in which it is written. The real humour comes from imagining being ABLE to say such things to our kids, without risking them repeating them at JUST the wrong time - like in the supermarket if they have had a full-on day and are very tired.
The illustrations are very apt, and apply well to each verse, but I would liked to have seen a slightly better 'flow' between situations. It almost seemed a little jarring as I read through it... despite the fact that I was having trouble not wetting myself with laughter as it progressed from the calm, early stages, through the evening and the ongoing, thwarted attempts to get some quiet "just mummy and daddy" time, with a movie and popcorn.
Overall, there really isn't a lot to this book if you look at just the physical aspects - it only has fourteen 4-lines verses, each to it's own 2-page spread... and if it weren't in hardback it could be mistaken for a booklet you'd find in the doctor's waiting room... but for parents who have gone through those first three years of baby-raising, it carries a world of feeling, an infinity of frustration, and a universe of hilarity as we recall those moments that seemed so unfair at the time, but in hindsight just seem so funny.
