Product reviews...
We are loving our copy of Amazing dog facts and trivia. What an awesome and massive little book. Massive in content, facts and pictures, yet little in size.
This book is a wealth of knowledge and information. It tells you how to take care of your dog, how to train a dog with clicker training, lure training, and reward training. It teaches you all about the different noises and things dogs will do and what they may mean, including signs of aggression.
It has facts spanning across the years, as well as some funny things about dogs: such as canine quotes, and crazy canine laws. For example in some areas of Oklahoma people who make ugly faces at dogs may be fined or even jailed.
It also covers all the things you would need if you decide to get a puppy plus a lot of information on different dog breeds so you can make an informed choice, because as we all know... dogs are not cheap pets.
I really enjoyed reading through this book with my 4 yr old daughter, and as she is not a big fan of dogs she has enjoyed looking at all the cute puppies and other cute dogs that neither of us knew existed. I'm pretty sure she now has a new interest in dogs and she often sits and flicks through the book, pointing different things out to me as well as counting the dogs on the pages.
The only downfall I can really see is that I now want a Leonberger Which is a mix of a St Bernard, Pyrenean mountain dog, and Newfoundland... and was created by the mayor of a small German town who wanted a dog that would match their town shield, which had a lion on it and bred one that would look like a lion.
This is a wonderful resource full of brilliant information, and even the biggest dog person is bound to learn something they never knew. I learnt heaps... I definitely learnt that i do not know anywhere near as much about dogs as i thought i did.
It's been a toss up who has been enjoying this book more, Miss 4.5 who can never wait to get her hands on it to "read" through it, Master 1 who really, I think probably just wants it because his sister has it, or me who even went so far as to reference it in my recent dog assignment for the Animal Care Certificate I'm doing.
I'm an avid reader and an animal nut so I guess this was always going to be a winner with me. It's a book with lots of fun and interesting "bite sized" facts and pieces of information. It's one of those books you can read a bit of, put it down and pick it up again when the fancy strikes you. I love these books because they give me something to idling flick through when bored.
My 4.5 year old has also enjoyed looking through it and it's helped spark questions. Given she has had almost no interaction with dogs and won't go near them, I view this as a good thing. It's giving me a platform for teaching her.
Over all gets a highly recommended from me.
