History with all the nasty bits left in.
Based on the best-selling series of books for kids (and adults, but they just won't admit it), Horrible Histories is an anarchic, surprising and unconventional take on history's most gruesome and funny moments.
Foul facts, rotten rulers, beastly battles and evil inventions feature in horribly hilarious sketches, songs, cartoons and quizzes - all linked by the show's host - a talking rat!
From woeful World Wars, miserable Middle Ages and savage Stone Age to cut-throat Celts, groovy Greeks, rotten Romans, vicious Vikings and awful Egyptians, history has never been so horrible!
Irreverent in tone and approach, these are the stories from history that your teacher wouldn't tell you about; the gory, smelly bits that they wouldn't approve of. Get ready for the funniest, fastest, nastiest and daftest ride through history you're very likely to see.
Special Features:
• Savage Songs
• Quiz Questions

From BBC and 2 Entertain, Horrible Histories is a gross and ghastly rerun of history, but with all the bad bits left in. I thought that this DVD was absolutely cool, even though it nearly made me barf a few times. The cover seemed to be quite good as it looked so interesting that it made me more keen to watch it. I found it rather enjoyable and it was a fun way to learn stuff while watching TV, and I thought the books were good enough.
If I had to choose between reading the books or watching the DVD I would choose option #2 since I pay more attention to the television than books, plus it gives me more of a visual on what's happening. I almost bust out laughing at one point when a man on a sort of news program called HHTV News was naming a bunch of Roman cities when he got too carried away and started singing Macarena, trust me ,it was really funny.
I found the quiz questions and the True or False Parts of the DVD rather challenging and they put my brain into action, the only downside to it was that I sometimes got the answers wrong and it's pretty disappointing when that happens. Horrible Histories is half cool, half disgusting, all true, so be prepared to see things you aren't likely to find in the history books.
