My Story - 1900 - A Brand New Century product reviews

The diary of Flora Bonnington, London 1899-1900: 'A day slips away like sand in a sand glass and so we are caught up in this inevitable passage towards 1900. I bought a journal...it will record my journey into the new century. I shall call it 'Twentieth Century Girl' for that is what I intend to be'.

I chose this book as i am fascinated with how people lived in times gone by, whether it was in the viking era or the 20th century.

This book is written in a journal style being told by Flora Bonnington, who is 14 and is writing her journal to jot down her life that sees her through into a new century, the 20th Century.

Flora is greatly looking forward into the new Century. She lives with her Father, Sister and Grandmother, whom she calls Grandmama. Her mother died from pneumonia when she was a little girl so she doesn't know much about her apart from what she has been told.

This book covers Flora's fascination with Cinematography as this is a new invention. She wants to learn more on this subject, however is hindered by her father as this is not what he wants for his daughter.

Her Grandmama is involved with the national woman's sufferage movement, which is trying to get women to realise that they should have the same rights men do and to not be the inferior sex.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and finished it within two days. I thought the language used in the book to be of the right era, and the book really made you feel like you we're apart of the story. I would definitely read this again and recommend it.
