Quadro Blocks product reviews

Proud to promote NZ productsQuadroBlocks are a 100% New Zealand designed and manufactured construction block set.

With enough blocks, you and your child(ren) could build almost anything.

A great invention, sure to keep the little ones quite for hours, exploring their creative imaginations.

NOTE: After much research recently, we have determined that these are probably no longer being produced.

It goes to show that what appeals to children can differ so completely from what appeals to adults. I tested these blocks out on a group of grown ups, as well as my ten year old son... the grown ups came out with various comments eg "What are the fat ones for?", "They hurt my fingers!", "Some of them don't fit together!" (accompanied by foot stamping). Despite their best efforts the most interesting shapes they came up with were a daffodil, and a submarine (which no one could bear to point out had lots of holes).

My ten year old however, has been playing with them constantly for the last 3 hours. I have barely heard him speak, and he has been so engrossed in them I have to say everything to him three times. And he has made everything under the sun. And moon.

I asked him if there was anything that could be better about them. He said give me more blocks.

So there you go... well worth the money and some.

They are also really tough, although I would be a bit reluctant to give them to a little kiddy just in case they got stuck as they aren't all that big. I would say 5+

These blocks are great! It's funny how a seemingly simple toy can provide hours more imaginative construction fun than something more detailed and varied. My eight year old always comes back to these blocks, and I'm sure they'll last through a great age range.
They're quite good for building symmetrical shapes. Many times they are built into multiple identical models, with matching colours and designs. They are also so durable! They stay together really well too, yet are not too hard to put together. Just a basic cube shape, for example, is so sturdy.

I first encountered these cool blocks when I was out at the Annual Kite Day at Ohakea Airbase a few years ago. I was surprised to see that they were made here in Palmerston North, so I tracked down the manufacturer and spoke with them about the blocks.

Made from a very durable plastic, these blocks are small enough to make some cool shapes, but big enough to be a very uncomfortable fit in tiny mouths, meaning less chance of choking on them. And with their unique design, there are quite a few ways to interconnect them, meaning lots of dreams can be built by young hands and minds.

With 250 pieces per box, priced at around $12 (depending where and how many you buy) the value for money is really high. And the age range they will appeal to is huge! My 3 year old son adores playing with his blocks, and so does his Dad. :)

The only SLIGHT down-side is the range of shapes. Unlike some other building block ranges, the connections are somewhat limited in scope, meaning that certain geometric shapes are impossible to create unless you go to town with a hacksaw on some blocks. However, there are two varieties of blocks, the standard size, and the double-thickness. The DT's are useful in certain situations, so it still scores reasonable well.

I'm not at all sure where you can buy them though, as I haven't seen them in any chain stores or even any independent toy stores.
