I bought mine a year ago but didn't use it much. I find the sizes are wrong for my bowls -- or maybe I have the wrong bowl sizes for these. The smallest one is too small for my smallest bowl but too big for my ramekins. The middle sized lid broke so I didn't believe in the no-tear claim by the ad. My middle sized one tore when I used it to cover a bowl with food that had bones so I think the bones poked the plastic and it tore.
The vacuuming power is good and that's what I can say that's true in the claims made by Adman. Once you get the right size of the bowl, it really sticks so that even when you turn it upside down, the lid stays on. However, once you put it in the fridge, maybe it's because of the temperature or maybe the other containers might have "hit' the lid, the suction comes off. So you have to be careful. My fridge suffered a lot of spillage because of this. I don't put it in the fridge anymore after that happened a couple of times. I just use the plastic wrap as it's much more reliable. Also the plastic wraps are microwaveable now so it's better too, unlike this lid.
When I first saw these I thought to myself, okay there is no way these could do what they say they can, but I said i'd test them out so test them I would. The first thing I did to try these was to see exactly how easy they were to apply so I grabbed a bowl, partially filled it with water and grabbed one of the lids. I placed the lid over the bowl, pushed down in the middle and what do you know it actually worked. The lid was firmly on the bowl and even if I tipped it on it's side it just wouldn't leak. Removal was just as easy, put your fingers on the underside of the lid next to the bowl rim and push up to break the seal, easy.
Next I decided to test the odour lessness factor of it, so I grabbed some particularly smelly garlic cloves, mashed them up a bit, put them in the bowl (less the water of course) and put the lid back on, and left it sitting for an hour. When I came back there was no smell coming from the bowl at all, until I opened it that is .
These are a great idea and i'm glad I got to discover them.
I thought these were utterly brilliant. They worked very effectivly even with some bowls that gladwrap doesnt want to work with very well. That was the biggest plus as far as I was concerned. Very durable and sturdy though they are they didnt stand up to the loving attentions of a toddler and his joy at slamming things around. In this case one of these lids against the back door. And the floor. And the notepad spike on my desk. That last one really did the damage obviously but the previous two impacts did cause cracks in the frame. Really just take care to treat them well and keep them out of smaller hands and they should serve you very well indeed. As far as I could tell they live up to their hype.
These are just brilliant. Though I have tried other "silicon sealing lids" which were very effective, these are a lot simpler to use than the elastic ones, and more effective, plus better value, than the flat blue ones. Really, the best of all the worlds.
What really sets these ones apart is... well, a number of factors really. Firstly, these are so tough they will bear the weight of laden dishes stacked on top of them. In fact, the added weight actually helps preserve the food better, since it expels more air, which has no way of returning to speed spoilage. You also have the rigid plastic outer ring, that gives you something solid to grab on to, including a small handle.
Overall, these really impressed me as probably being the most effective 'fast seals' I have come across in a long time. Simple to apply - just put on top of the bowl and push down the center... simple to undo - just lift one edge by pressing firmly from underneath at the rim... and highly effective - nothing I sealed with these leaked either smell nor fluids.
