Max Payne product reviews

Mark Wahlberg delivers an explosive performance in this action packed thriller based on the legendary, hard hitting video game. Max Payne (Wahlberg) is a maverick cop with little regard for rules and nothing left to lose.

Hell bent on revenge, he's determined to track down those responsible for the brutal murder of his family, but his obsessive investigation takes him on a nightmarish journey where dark fantasy collides with stark reality.

As the mystery deepens, Max is forced to battle enemies beyond the natural world, and face an unlikely betrayal that will drive him to the edge of his own sanity.

This film surprised me. I have never really been a fan of Mark Wahlberg. And as has been parodied in many television shows, Wahlberg is rather limited to 'confused' and 'angry'. That being said, Max Payne lives entirely within those two emotions. Thomas Jane "The Punisher" would have made a far better casting choice in my opinion.

This film largely encompasses the vibe of the games. Like a graphic novel. Dark, gritty, and always snowing, it incorporating many features from the games, such as bullet time, painkillers, and nightmares. This film portrays the mind of a tortured man. A man who has had his family taken away from him, who now balances along the edge of insanity.

The CGI looked similar to the game, which if you have played the first two games, you would know that they are very flat, and lack believability. The cast is full of big household names from Mila Kunis, to Ludacris, but most stand out, in a bad way.

Whilst lacking in many areas, I found this film highly entertaining. Perhaps the games themselves are so dark that their portrayal into film is still a novelty. But the blend of the real and the supernatural kept me guessing, and Max Payne delivered blood on command.

First I am a very big fan of the Max Payne game, especially because of the story and as with all the other games I've played, I really hoped I could someday see it as a movie, and it did happen.
But I was a little disappointed by the movie, it did have some parts of the game but not as I imagined. The story line was too weak, too few flashbacks and almost no action for a very long time. On the other side, the movie theme was exactly as the game theme. Always dark, black & white surroundings and snowing, maybe that's the only good thing about the movie, along with some suspense every now and then. The acting was OK, except that some characters were not good at all and Mark Wahlberg was not as "emotional" as "Max" in the game, but he was good. I recommend you see this movie, it's not that bad as people say, although not that good, but worth to see even once. I enjoyed it but not so much!
