Uncle Ben's Express Rice : Special Fried Rice is brilliant...what a terrific idea, it couldn't get easier...one could almost change the name to cook yummy rice for dummies!! Put the bag of Uncle Ben's Express Rice : Special Fried Rice into the microwave and 2 minutes later you have an instant cooked and seasoned long grain rice with ham, peas and cooked egg...the rice is gently steamed in a microwave-safe pouch for maximum freshness and flavour, super easy to open, and even quicker to cook, great tasting and no washing up afterwards, it's like the best thing since sliced bread!
Great to have in the cupboard if caught short and want an easy to prepare snack or take as a packed lunch to work, you can easily add a protein of chicken or fish, beef and bulk up Uncle Ben's Express Rice : Special Fried Rice if needing to feed more than one person or to satisfy the fussy male in the house that has to have more than just rice!!
The price is high but having the added benefit of a near instant meal and having no cleanup afterwards sways even the most tightest of wallets.... but if you think about it, it is way cheaper than buying takeaways or heading to the dairy or cafe to buy a lunch or dinner when you are hungry at lunchtime during work hours, or after work.
Plus the added bonus of always being full after eating Uncle Ben's Express Rice : Special Fried Rice with the added bonus again of the vegetables in it as well.....can't really fault Uncle Ben's Express Rice : Special Fried Rice...it is delicious, easy to prepare and with no clean up it is a win, win situation.....line the pantry shelves people you will not regret the decision.
At first I'm a bit skeptic on how this taste like until my partner bought one for me when I'm in the hospital waiting for my c-section. I keep on requesting to him that he bring rice for me as the hospital food doesn't seem nice to me that time plus they seldom serve rice when I'm a rice addict.
One afternoon I felt frustrated he turned up with a grocery bag instead of packed home cooked lunch, and he brought up Uncle Ben's Express Rice, and he said it looks good, not complicated to cook the only thing left is, does it taste nice? Well yes, indeed it taste nice, after that he always bought Uncle Ben's as I stayed in the hospital for ten days.
The taste is not boring, the texture of the rice is just right plus you'll never go wrong in cooking the rice because Uncle Ben already cooked it for you. I'll give Uncle Ben 10/10.
The special fried rice is probably my favourite in the Uncle Ben's Special Fried Rice range.
My husband is the chef in the family but he doesn't like rice so on the nights that he is out and I am forced to cook (often at very short notice) this is a life saver. It is so quick. Only 2 minutes in the microwave. It is cooked in the pouch so all I have to do it spoon it into a bowl. All I have to wash is the bowl and spoon.
I can add more vegetables to it if I wish or I can eat it as it is. My parents often have this at home because my father can't cook but he can follow instructions on the packet.
It isn't a cheap way to buy rice but you are paying for the convenience. It is great to take to work for lunch too.
Defintely one of the better rice flavours in this range I think. With a range of extra ingredients, this is a quick and easy way to add a little oriental touch to a meal, be it as a side dish, or as a basis for something a little more combined, such as a 'combination fried rice'...
To try something a little different, and following on from an idea I saw on a fishing show where they cooked a packet-rice on a boat (No microwave ovens in a small boat out in the middle of the ocean), I nuked the packet for only 1 minute, half the suggested time, and then decanted it all into a frying pan with some sauteed onion and fried beef and chicken strips. Giving it a good stir and cook, I was able to give it a nice light pan-tan, without burning it, adding a touch of extra flavour. It was delicious!
Overall, so quick, easy and versatile, if you enjoy rice at all, you'd be wise to check your local supermarket shelves for these packs, and grab an assortment to have on hand for those impromptu dinner requirements, or random inspirational lunches.
Extremely easy product to prepare. My 6yr old was stoked to be able to cook it her self. My other dayghter said it tasted just like the chinese shop.
All the Uncle Bens rices were so yummy and I think they are great value for money. Hubby is going to get some of these for his next hunting trip.
This one was one of my favourites of the Uncle Ben's Express Rice range, as with all the other Express Rice products it is extremely easy to prepare. I found the mix of flavours in this one to be a nice taste without any one ingedient being too overpowering with it's flavour.
This was great as a stand alone meal, but would also go really well with any kind of Stir Fry meal as a side dish.
I sampled this for lunch today. As expected, it was VERY easy to prepare - just snip the top and microwave! After two minutes it came out piping hot.
Poured into a bowl, it looked okay; perhaps could do with a bit more colour (some corn, or diced red pepper?). I am very used to salty food, so I did have to put quite a bit of salt on the rice before it was salty enough to my tastes - but this is okay, it is far better than being TOO salty! Everyone has different seasoning preferences.
There was an average amount of ham, egg and peas as expected.
The package says enough for 1-2 servings, I ate the whole packet for lunch with nothing else. It could serve two small portions as a side dish. I was comfortably full when I had finished my bowl, so I think this is a good serving for one.
Definitely a great product for those short on time, and wanting a quick food fix. A little bland and 'plain' for me however, I would love this product if it had more vegetables included.
