Product reviews...
Often have I found myself playing with Adobe After Effects and, having learned a new trick or completed a small contract job for a client, I want to burn it to disc. Often I find the resultant movie is too big to fit on a CD unless the rendering quality is pushed down to the point where it looks more like B-grade claymation, and yet too small to warrant efficient use of even a single-layer 4.7gig DVD. Presenting the perfect solution...
Having seen, many years ago, mini-CD-R's and realising that they took the place of long-term archive floppy-discs, it was great to see a DVD version finally available. At last there is a storage step between CDs and standard DVDs. Fitting 1.4gig on here makes it great for small projects, such as dumping a couple of data CDs, 250-odd MP3s, or a small multimedia project.
After testing 3 freebies sent through for review, I found them to be highly effective for the sending of small batches of files, without wasting the potential capacity of a full-sized disc. As a bonus, it will also fit into a standard envelope, something a normal disc can't... which also means that with the careful use of some cardboard found lying around, you can save a bundle of shipping of smaller projects. Being printable also makes them highly desirable, as you can design suitable artwork specific to the job or client, ensuring you don't accidentally send the wrong disc out.
Overall, very much a speciaility product, sadly under-utilised and hard to locate in today's market... more's the pity. I got a local PC supplier to order a few boxes in for me, since they are just the ticket for my side-interests in multimedia presentations. My friends and clients are always impressed with the results. The only warning is for the recipient with a vertical-standing player such as a PS2 or the new Xbox 360... these are SMALL discs, and you will need to either lay your player down on it's side, or use an spacer/adapter to keep the disc centered while playing. Excepting that small hiccup, if you have need of medium-range storage, or small-format discs for postage, you would be wise to consider these.

"I like to pick up hitchhikers. When they get in the car I say, "Put on your seat belt. I want to try something. I saw it once in a cartoon, but I think I can do it."
