Product reviews...
I doubt the Italians have ever thought of making a cappuccino using rice milk and this may be a little too avant-gard to the traditional Italian taste buds; however, this this work exceedingly well for my jaded tastebuds and could easily become the flavour-de-jour of the dairy-free crowds whilst still enjoying the rich flavour of their daily cappuccino.
From my point of view, as someone who prefers a dairy-free diet, these straws worked exceedingly well with rice milk; and because the product is dairy-free and almost a hypoallergenic formula I would have no hesitation in recommending these products to both people with allergies and to the vegetarian and vegan societies as a treat for their kids or themselves. I tried this product with rice milk only, believing soy milk to have a taste that would mask the taste of the product.
This is a winner - what more can be said?
I wasn't quite sure what I was expecting with these straws... would they have powder that you tipped into milk? If it stayed in the straw how did that work? Were the straws themselves flavoured?
So I approached straw usage with some trepidation. Opening the first packet I was interested to see a semi-closed off straw with little balls of coloured stuff (quite possibly the flavouring). I plonked the straw into some milk, and promptly wandered off. When I came back a few seconds later I took a sip through my straw and was thoroughly slapped in the face by flavour! After a few seconds of enthusiastic straw sucking to clear the back-log I found I was only halfway through the flavouring in the straw, but dangerously close to running out of milk! After topping up my glass I managed to run out of straw before the milk was gone.
My second straw was more cleverly managed and I got a nice balance of flavour and no milk left over afterward, although I did discover that rate of suction really does make a difference to flavour intensity. I found the straws to be a little bulkier than I liked, but the tastiness really outweighed any issues :)
These straws are a fantastic way of having a milk drink wherever, without the hassle of carrying perishable milk around with you. It was so handy for me to take one to work, pour myself a glass of milk and drink it through a flavoured straw - voila! Flavoured milk! I was also able to give them to my son to take as part of his afternoon snack, he loved them - thought they were cool, and it was a great way of getting him away from sugar-filled juice (these straws claim only half a teaspoon of sugar)
Cappucino was a delicious flavour! And a much easier way of having iced coffee... it tasted more like normal iced coffee than it did a cappucino but was tasty nonetheless.
Like the previous reviewer I discovered that the initial fist few sips are very coffee flavoured indeed, but this does subside to a more confortable taste level quite quickly. While not as stronga coffee flavour as the Espresso it still had a delightful taste and it does contain that all important caffine that so many of us crave.
This is the coffee-lovers' dream. It is a easy to use, quick addition to your average boring old glass of milk.
The flavour is a bit of a kick to begin with, especially if you don't get the suction right and get a hugely coffee flavoured mouthful. The sugar content is good for those that like a little kick in the afternoon but are still trying to look after themselves.
I look forward to the possibilty that this will become a regular flavour in dairies and milk selling places everywhere. I know I'll certainly keep an eye out for it.
Being an avid consumer of Caffeinated drinks, I jumped at the chance to try some of these new "coffee flavoured straws", So I got my pack of straws, ripped one open, Dunked one into a big glass of milk, and started sipping.
Initially the flavour was very apparent, but then started to fade, and it took me a few long sips to reach the "perfect-suck-rate" to flavour the milk on its way up the straw. Too slow wasnt an issue, but too fast, the milk travels up the straw with very little flavouring picked up.
Now, this wasnt your top-class-Cafe Cappuccino, but for a drink in a straw, it was pretty good.
The value for money is acceptable, not too high, but defininitely not a steal.
The taste was distinctly coffee-based, but not overwhelmingly so.
Effectiveness at a nine because the product did do it's job, and satisfyingly so.
And Personal choice at a nine, because I did like the product, the taste, and the ease-of-use.
