My son is quite fussy about what books he likes me to read to him, and at first wasn't too keen on me reading this one. But, once we started, even he enjoyed it. A collection of horror orientated poems, most of which had good rhythm and interesting topics that my son was able to relate to. After several of the poems, he had questions, so would ensue a brief conversation about just what was meant in the poem.
One of my particular favourites was "Bottling it up", which discussed, through 2 easy to understand verses, that it's better to share your problems, rather than keep them bottled up inside, which would result in you just going POP, and leaving a terrible mess of scary feelings across the ceiling - much better to share them, and admit you're scared, and therefore avoid the big mess.
Messages like this, along with poems like "Please Mr Dentist" - which went through a child's fears when they first go to see the dentist especially regarding the scary drill, to the realisation at the end that the visit, and what happened during, really wasn't all that bad after all - made this book a great read as it made for great giggles with the funny pictures and sometimes strange sounding nonsense words, while still educating in several different ways.
Definitely a book that will be read more than once- and that's from someone who's not a big fan of nonsense poems!

It's morbid and messy - but it's a mystery with plenty of clues. This is turf warfare between North London Gangs. Organised crime boss Billy Ryan is moving into someone else's patch, and that someone is not best ... more...
