Wow, this is one must have book for any child or family. Where do I start, as there is so much positives to write about this book. I love how it can capture any age range, my wee girl, my toddler, my big boy and us parents all loved this book. It has been created just wonderfully, it funny, its great, the pictures are amazing, the sing along is fantastic and the use of Te Reo and learning as you read or sing is just wonderful. Great for learning and having a great time with the family that everyone can join in on.
This is a well thought out book, and the price is wonderful for the fun and enjoyment you get from the book and the amount of uses. The pictures are incredible, they are just amazing and very well designed. I love how they have taken 5 classic songs and added their own twist to them, and the Te Reo is awesome. English and Te Reo, so good for everyone in the house to learn and sign or read along with. The songs have a good sense of humor to them, the kids think its funny as and crack up as they sign along.
I iwsh this was around when I was a kid, but even as a adult I am really enjoying the book. Well used and I bet the cousins will also enjoy this next time they are over and the book comes out. My toddler just loves the book. He would have it on daily if he could. I will be recomending this book to my friends with children as I know they will love it also. Would also be a great gift to a family with christmas coming up.
All 3 of my children are keen bookworms, whether it is reading by themselves, or being read to, so we are always on the lookout for new, and exciting books to add to our large collection. When I saw the Ka Pai Kiwi Favourites book, I thought it would be an ideal book to share. When I received the book I was over the moon, but the kids were ecstatic and could not wait to start reading.
We opened the book and took a look at which stories were included, these were The Kiwi Hokey Tokey, The Kiwi Go Marching One by One, 10 Kooky Kiwi, If You're a Kiwi and You Know It!, and there was also Row, Kiwi, Row Your Boat.
Of these stories we had only read one of them before, so read the others first.
Throughout this story book there are vibrant, visually appealing images of cute characters and their surroundings, my kids fell in love with the animals that were in the last story, which included kiwi, penguin, fantail, and many more! This treasury of stories is different, in the way that it has the English version of the story, and is then followed up by the Maori version. I saw that there was a link that we could go to and download the songs to sing along to, the children loved this and it helped mum realise that her pronunciation needs some work.
This book has become the current favourite before bedtime book, and I am surprised because all 3 children get quite into the stories, even my 8 and 10 year olds. This book would be a fabulous gift, or even one to just have on the bookshelf.
I could hear my 11-year-old daughter singing, laughing, singing, laughing, and then singing again. I went to investigate. There she was with Ka Pai Kiwi Favourites, singing her heart out and then cracking up laughing. To be honest, when I first saw this book, I thought it may be a little young for her but was pleasantly surprised. She loved it and begged me to keep it at home and not to share it with my class.
I have lived in New Zealand for over 20 years and am on a continual journey to improve my Te Reo Maori. I take every opportunity and use any resource I can to help me with my pronunciation and vocabulary. This book is perfect! It takes five nursery rhymes/ songs, puts a New Zealand twist on them, and then has them printed in English and Te Reo Maori. The writing is nicely spaced out and easy to read, with certain words or phrases emphasised in colour. One of the stand out features of this book is the illustrations. From hip hop Kea's to ducks wearing a mask and snorkel the illustrations are amazing - bright, colourful, and humourous. The illustrations are similar for the English and Te Reo versions but not identical which is a nice touch, it would have been very easy just to print the same pictures and change the words.
Now, although I know this book is not necessarily intended to help adults with their Te Reo, I can definitely say it has helped. I even got to practice counting to ten with 10 Kooky Kiwi/ 10 nga kiwi rereke! This book would make the perfect gift for any bilingual children, or children keen to practice their Te Reo. This is a beautiful book you would just want to treasure and I highly recommend this gorgeous, Kiwi-themed, sing-along book.
