From Academy Award-winning visionary Jordan Peele comes another original nightmare. Starring Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o and Winston Duke, an endearing American family is pitted against a terrifying and uncanny opponent: doppelgangers of themselves.

I had high expectations for Us, especially after watching Jordan Peele's "Get out". Us is about the all American Wilson family who encounter terrifying doppelgangers of themselves whilst on holiday.

The character dynamics are great to watch with the focus of the movie on Adelaide (Lupita N'yongo) and her doppelganger Red. Lupita N'yongo's acting is exceptional and she plays Red with an intensity that makes her extremely creepy. Her expressions and subtle actions at times made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck! She expertly manages to portray both characters that, whilst completely different, are still connected. Other performances that deserve an honourable mention are Tim Heidecker and Elizabeth Moss, who play Josh and Kitty, the Wilson's friends. Their characters are well written and the acting overall is good with all the characters well cast.

With regards to the story, there are some logical issues that I couldn't get to add up, however, I would imagine that this is a talking point that Peele purposefully created. He uses a lot of symbolism and the film is beautiful and scary at the same time. The music score was effectively used to establish intensity and tension and it effortlessly flowed between classic jazz and modern music.

There are some things that I feel should have been explained in the film and the story finishes with an open-ended twist that had me thinking about it well after viewing. In fact, I had to visit Google to check to see if my initial thoughts were correct. Overall, this is a well-made film with fantastic acting, great music, and stand-out cinematography. Some people may think the twist was predictable, but I didn't. It was a thought-provoking film that definitely deserves a second and third viewing.
