I don't buy wine often and when I do it's never more than fifteen dollars and then I usually don't end up finishing the bottle, so I've been wanting to branch out to the slightly costlier bottles in case they taste that much better and I then want to actually finish the bottle. Opening this up I got an instant hit of sweet strawberry, the smell actually made me think of a strawberry and lime cider that I really enjoy so I was curious as to how this would taste. There's a nice light fizz to this which gives a nice enough hit without feeling like there's too many bubbles to this.
I shared this with my mum, knowing I'd need to finish the bottle as I don't have any form of stopper. She said that she enjoyed it very much, that it is sweet but not too sweet and she likes the flavour. It's smooth with a little sharp taste on the tip of your tongue, she liked the slight bubbles and would buy it for a special occasion. I, myself, really enjoyed this, it was close enough to the flavours of ciders that I like but still it's own thing. For me this seemed like a sophisticated cider as it had that similar flavour but it has a really nice smoothness to it, I did find it very sweet which is surprising considering how little sugar is actually in this (which is a bonus).
I really enjoyed this and for a special occasion I would buy this.
I am a fan of fruity cider and sweet wines, including Lindauer Fraise so I was interested to see how Splendia Fragolino would compare. The wine is a bright, light strawberry colour and the label on the bottle is very minimalist. The cork was easy to pop off and I didn't have to worry about all the wine spraying out of the bottle. The cork smelt like strawberries which was a good start and the wine fizzed nicely when poured into a glass. The first flavour to hit me was strawberries and it tasted lovely and sweet, which I prefer. If you like dry wines then this is definitely not the wine for you! After the initial strawberry flavour, there there was an aftertaste that I couldn't quite distinguish which stopped it being too sweet, but didn't detract from the overall appeal.
This is a light and refreshing wine that is easy to consume. In fact, it's very similar to a strawberry Prosecco and it's so smooth to drink you can get a little carried away with the servings! Once I had started the bottle it was easy to keep topping up my glass and it seemed a shame to leave any as the bottle wasn't resealable and I would hate for any to spoil! The plus side is that it is low on calories so it didn't affect my waistline too dramatically!
This is a perfect wine to have during a summer BBQ or a special occasion and I'll definitely be putting a few bottles away for when friends come to stay and play!
Random listing from 'Beverages'...
Pinky/gold salmon coloured with a subtle strawberry aroma, intermingled with an underlying yeasty, toasty bouquet. A careful blending of the base wines has resulted in a full palate with an elegant finesse.
The wine has a hint of sweetness which complements the subtle, lingering taste of strawberries.
