Lego Nexo Knights The Power of the Fortrex product reviews

Clay likes to do things by the book. By the Knights Code book, to be exact. Clay practices his knightly skills for hours every day. He wants to be the best of the knights. Lance, on the other hand, would much rather play video games than study a book full of rules. He thinks a true knight goes with his gut.

One thing is for sure: the other NEXO KNIGHTS team members are sick of them
arguing. Can Clay and Lance work together long enough to take down Jestro and his Magma Monsters.

There are three kids in my family who love Lego and one who is at the perfect stage to read this on their own and this book got snatched up straight away. Every page has a good sized illustration, taking up at least half of the page, sometimes two thirds of the page, so it keeps it nice and inviting to the kids. The pictures also sparked my kids imagination and had them recreating the pictures as best they could, considering they don't have all the pieces, but anything that sparks imagination is a good thing.

When it comes to the storyline itself, I read it through once on my own and didn't like the book at all, good thing the book isn't aimed at me, so I passed it over to my eldest to read it. We took our time with it so that he wouldn't feel rushed into it, but he ended up enjoying it so much that he finished it in the same day. There were a few words he struggled with at first, such as 2.0, Merlock and other words that fitted within the Nexo Knights world, however, once he learnt the words, he was off. He thought the overall story was good and he enjoyed it enough that he wants to keep it.

I have read this reader to both of my kids separately. My youngest took an instant like to the book originally and hid it in her room. I noticed that she would pull it out occasionally and flip through it trying to read some of the words. She is four and only really knows a few words, but she was very keen to read the book. I sat down with her and we read through it together over the course of three nights.

I then took the book out of her room and down to her big sister's room. She had already had the graduation story read to her, but she found this book a bit more exciting. When I asked why, she said it was because it was Lego. But when pressed further, she admitted that it was because there were so many awesome full colour pictures in this book showing the figures. She wanted to know more about the Book of Monsters and who everyone was as well.

My eldest and I demolished the book in 2 days, though I did most of the reading still. I think she would have been able to read most of herself if she had wanted to try. The other day Miss 4 was in her sister's room and she was most upset to find this book there. She told her sister off for taking her book. She was quite serious that it was her special Lego book. I had to explain that I was reading it to her sister, before she let us borrow it. So to say this has been a favourite is an under-statement.

The only negative I have about this book is one typo that I noticed on the last page. It didn't detract from the overall book, but I did notice it. Because this is a kid's reader I felt that more care could have been taken around editing. It was a real word in this case, just not the one that was meant. So I have marked it down slightly for this. However, my kids didn't notice it and they still think it's an awesome book.
