Although the pictures are not to my taste, they really work with this wacky story. My daughter has been dying to read the second book for so long and our local library does not have so when I saw it on special today I just had to buy it. Of all days for her to have a play date I have been holding out all day for her to get home. As soon as I held it up she squealed and grabbed it out of my hands and said can we read it.

We both loved it. Especially the snakes reaction to finding out they were about to save Chickens. His look was priceless and when he started visualising what he was going to do we both nearly in tears. Or the sharks reaction to a little spider fantastic. Such role reversals. It is very funny and a very easy read. It is broken into chapters but, as we could not wait to see how it would all turn out we just read it in one go. Finding out there is a third book on its way she is already asking can we buy it when it is released. This is a very fun book and one I am sure the whole family will continue to enjoy for some time.

I loved the opening few pages when discussing how very bad guys released dogs from a pound, how each character was discussed and flipping there good deed to a very bad deed. A great recap of the first story. It is so clever and well written.

In retrospect it would of been nice if I had read alone first so I got of got the gist of the story and knew what was going to happen. The book is told in a comic book style and so a lot can be happening at one time and as I am not the best at voices I missed a lot of character changes which kind of confused things at times. But it still worked and she kept up and laughed when she needed to. A really neat little series. Bring on that third book.

We loved the first book in the Bad Guys series so I was super excited to receive book number 2 to review. In this book the Bad Guys or as they like to think of themselves, members of the Good Guys club, are on a mission to rescue chickens from a battery farm.

My son (age 8 years) and I really like these books. They're perfect for a bit of light reading for him and full of laughs. I really like the comic book style and there are lots of black and white illustrations throughout. The text is fairly simple and the whole idea behind the series makes for some very comical situations. The chapters are fairly short and we read this book over a couple of evenings. Each character has there own distinct personality so we get to make up lots of funny voices which only adds to the hilarity and there is a new character which provides a lot of the humour in this book.

I think it's fairly original as far as kid's books go, particularly books aimed at boys and I'm always on the lookout for new books that will appeal to my son. The ending was quite amusing and unexpected and we can't wait to find out what happens in book number 3.

We love Aaron Blabey's picture books at our house. I was excited to see this book in our selection for review this time around, because it was quite a different style of book from Blabey. I didn't see the first book in the series, but after this week I will be seeking it out and keeping an eye out of book three as well.

For my first reading of this book, I sat down with Miss 8. I read about three chapters an evening which took us three nights. She enjoyed the humour in this book, an the illustrations. She is quite mad about birds, so the storyline of rescuing chickens really worked for her. Her favourite character was Mr Piranha, which I assume was partly because we recently read "Piranhas Don't Eat Bananas". But I really liked him too. He was fun to give a voice to.

The next time reading through this, I sat with Miss 3. She was even more attentive through the reading as her big sister was. She wanted to look at each picture and she laughed heaps at every funny joke and silly thing that happened through the book. She liked Mr Piranha as well, but she adored Mr Shark and Legs and their relationship too.

Even though I read through this twice, I could easily read it over and over again. It was a really fun book. I probably picked up on more jokes than the girls did, I especially liked all the not so subtle hints around Mr Snake. It had a "Reservoir Dogs" feel to it which I liked to, as well as some "Leverage" style antics and I even felt Bear Grylls in there too.

The layout was really clear and fun. It has blocks of prose on each page, but some pages are cut into comic strip style. These help speed the action up and deliver the jokes with a punch too. As I said before, I can't wait to get my hands on more of these books. At $15 a book and considering it's appeal to both of my kids, these are really good value.
