When We Were Very Young product reviews

Curl up with a A. A. Milne's classic book of poetry for children, When We Were Very Young. This is the first volume of rhymes written especially for children by A.A. Milne - as popular now as when they were first written. Featuring E. H. Shepard's original illustrations, When We Were Very Young is a heart-warming and funny introduction to children's poetry, offering the same sense of humor, imagination and whimsy that we've come to expect from his favorite books about Winnie-the-Pooh, that Bear of Very Little Brain.

This is a book of poetry from the great A.A. Milne (the creator of Christopher Robin, Winnie the Pooh and the rest of the animals in the Hundred Acre Woods) which was first published in 1924! My mum ended up with two copies and gave one to me and I've had this copy for a few years now. What is great about these poems is that they are still as funny now as they were when they first came out, it adds a great sense of timelessness to the book and it is a great glance back at life almost one hundred years ago.

My favorite has, and I suspect always will be, is "Disobedience" a rather delightful poem about a mother who chooses not to listen to her rather young son and goes down to the end of town and ends up missing... ""King John put up a notice, Lost, Stolen or Strayed! James James Morrison's mother seems to have been mislaid. Last seen wandering vaguely: quite of her own accord, she tried to get down to the end of the town - forty shillings reward!" That's only one part of the poem and such a poem that is fun to quote to my kids every now and again and everyone who I've read it to, who hasn't heard it before, enjoys it.

A great book of poems for kids from a great author.

Product image for My Holocaust Story: HannaHanna Kaminsky loves gymnastics, her best friend Eva, Elza's chicken soup with dumplings and reading. But in September 1939 the happy life that Hanna has always known disappears. The Nazis have invaded Poland and are herding all Jews into ghettos in the cities. Hanna's family are forced into hiding in the countryside. For a while it seems they are safe. But hiding from the Germans means trusting others. Rounded up by the SS, Hanna and her family are sent to the Warsaw Ghetto where they must use whatever skills they have to survive.
