Veronica Guerin product reviews

Based on a true story, this is about the Irish journalist Veronica Guerin (Cate Blanchett), a reporter for The Sunday Independent, who exposed some of Dublin's most powerful crime barons and drug lords in 1996. But later that year she was gunned down by assasins hired by the same criminal drug lords she exposed.

I like a good crime drama and an Irish friend wanted to watch the movie as it based on a true story and he was in Ireland at the time so he knew the basic story and background things. The acting was great, some scenes were very emotional and hard to get right. I remember watching the movie and thinking this woman was crazy as she knew the dangers she was facing to bring the drug rings down and she still didn't back down and paid the ultimate price for her decision. There is a lot of bad language as you would expect in these situations, but the bad language was from everyone and not just the gangsters.

I think Cate Blanchett did a brilliant job, she knew how the story would end and she played the role well. She was tough when she needed to be and gentle with her "family" and I felt very sorry for her young son who had to suddenly adjust to life with no mum and I can't imagine what her partner would be able to say to explain it to the son. I was assured that this movie stuck to the actual facts and didn't vary from the story too much. I knew how it would end as my friend did warn me but still the end was a bit of a shock.

Unfortunately I can't find this on DVD anywhere as this is a movie I would watch again if I could find it on DVD but this I wouldn't let my kids watch until they are much older as it is full of violence and bad language.
