Product reviews...
Watties Just Add Mince is a yummy flavour filled mix to add to not just mince. We have added it to chicken stir fry, sausage casseroles, straight into our mince toasties with a little cheese. The mix of what's in this product gives it the big tick from us to be great with many things.
Only down fall we have along with a lot of other products we buy is the tomato factor as hubby can't have anything tomato. This we have found isn't to bad for that. We just added more mince so the sauce was more spread out. But we have also found a lot of watties products we are able to use with this little tomato problem. And these just add products fit into that.
This sauce is nice and smooth and not to chunky, which makes it nicer to mix and combine so smoothly. Getting in among all the bits of mince, sausage, or chicken which ever you choose to your this for. This is a product that I have recommend to friends and family on many occasions as its trusted here and comes in so many flavours. Nothing worse than a brand not having many flavours.
We often use the Wattie's Just Add sauces in our as they are so simple to use and are quick to prepare with results that make a super delicious meal. One of the sauces in the range that we buy most often is this Just Add Mince Hearty Savoury Mince Simmer Sauce. It can be put to use in so many ways, even beyond the addition of mince if so desired it certainly is a very versatile product, which is a great choice if you are on a tight budget as it also contains vegetables, tomato, carrots and corn all which seem to be kid friendly choices!
I have used this sauce to make a savoury mince to serve on hot buttered toast in the cold winter months, but also in a lasagne dish layered with pasta and cheese sauce and topped with grated cheese melted to perfection in the oven. It works great as the mince base for a shepherds pie topped with potato, and also served over either rice, couscous or pasta. I've used it in the past with sausages also and it made a rich and plentiful gravy that tasted great served in this way. Every way in which I have served a meal with this sauce it has always been scoffed down with happy recipients always asking for more, or even the recipe!
The flavour of the sauce is very hearty and meaty tasting, and it has a nice flavour of herbs in it, what I like most about the sauce is that it's not overly rich or spicy making it a safe choice for those with children. A great product to try especially if money is tight and your in need of a tasty product that makes heaps to go around. Something that I will continue to have in supply in our pantry.
When you are trying to feed kids on a tight budget any meat you get usually ends up being either sausages or mince so this is one sauce that ends up in my trolley often as you can do it in a lot of different ways.
I have used it with just mince and vegetables and also as part of a shepherds pie. I have also done mince with rice and mince with potatoes and mince with pasta and the sauce makes all the dishes taste yummy. I have never had any complaints from the kids apart from maybe asking why I didn't do some more. My kids don't like spicy foods and they have never complained about how hot this sauce is so it is one that I'm going to continue to use for years to come.
I find that the tin is big enough that I can use it alone, no need to add tinned tomatoes as I have to do with some other sauces and if I bulk out the meal a bit with vegetables then it is still enough sauce with some tinned tomatoes.
I find that it tastes like I have spent hours in the kitchen but in reality I manage to do most the meals in less than half an hour so that is a big thumbs up in my books.
It's been a while since we've eaten mince in this house and so when we bought some I went for an old favorite of the family's and got a can of Watties Just Add Mince, Hearty Savoury Mince Simmer Sauce.
If you should so choose there is a recipe in the back on the can that you can choose to follow for either inside the oven or in a slow cooker, love having an option there and it is something that I will look into for making the next time I get this sauce. It's a 550g tin, so a decent amount of sauce there and if you choose to bulk it up then you could feed quite a few people.
I opted to fry my mince with some mushroom, onion and garlic, letting it slowly cook up before adding some grated squash to the mix, threw in the sauce and a tin of chopped tomatoes and we had a great amount of sauce to feed three adults and five children. I put the sauce on some mashed potatoes with a little bit of grated cheese and away we went. I didn't hear a single complaint from any of the kids and everyone (except for my typically slow eater) tucked it away nice and quick so a good win for dinner.
