This book took me back to my child hood when we would sit around and do the clapping game using each persons name and compile the shopping list. This book definitely does not disappoint. Funnily enough its not a game I play with my kids so this book has reignited my memory and started a new fun game.

The book is just so funny and perfectly matched with the illustration's by Daron Parton. This is a fantastic book to read to your child to encourage their memory. This book had my girls laughing hysterically and was a real test for us when we tried to remember all the items without the book. Miss Three especially finds it very funny. She enjoys the rhyming words and loves the illustration's,which are a great prompt when we have completely forgotten the words.

I think this would be perfect for Christmas as it will kick start a game that will certainly keep everyone amused on any long car journeys over the holiday season. Don't think it is only suitable for young children as my Miss Six and Miss Eight enjoy testing themselves with it as well and the rhyming words have made it a good book for my Miss Six.

A brilliant book and a great read that will be enjoyed by all.

I remember playing My Aunt Mary Went Shopping in our class at school and as a Brownie. It seems that it is still as popular today. My six year old recognised the format of the book from the game at school. This book has become Miss 4.5's favourite book. Yesterday she was asked to chose her favourite book to be read at her preschool graduation and without hesitation she said "My Aunt Mary Went Shopping." That certainly is high praise for this book winning out over Palace Pets and Marvel Superheroes.

One of the main things that appeals to the kids is that, due to the repetitive nature of the text they can read it themselves. It is a real confidence booster for Miss 4.5 to be able to read a book as well as her big sister. Now when we read it the girls take turns reading a page each. I read this to my three year old homebased carekids and they were joining in too. They also love the rhyming words and the fact that the animals wore clothes had them in hysterics.

The only downside for me was that during the first reading I found it was a bit of a tongue twister. Every other time since I have read it it hasn't been a problem and after a few readings I can do it with my eyes closed. There is a great rhythm to the story and once you get it all just flows.

The illustrations are fantastic. In many scenes the giraffe is just legs to demonstrate his height. The pigs don't just wear boring wigs but a pink punk wig and a bushy clown wig. This all fits well with the nonsense story.

This is a book that any preschooler would love. I would happily buy more copies to gift to other young ones.
