When I was given a pile of six books to review Go Home Flash was the first one my girls (4.5 and 6 years old) selected to read. This is probably because my youngest is such and animal lover and could tell by title and the cover that Flash was a mischievous pup.

As soon as I started reading it to the girls Miss 6 joined in. I realised that she could read most of it for herself so other than a bit of prompting for a few tricky words I left her to do it. The sense of pride was enormous. It gave her much more confidence in her reading ability now I had given her the task of reading the bedtime story to her younger sister. The next night she read it aloud without any assistance and Miss 4.5 listened eagerly.

Rather than being written in sentences it is two or three word poetic phrases. This meant that it was a bit more difficult for a young reader to use prediction. The pictures were a great help and the girls were in hysterics at Flash's antics. Several times they would shout out "Oh no Flash."

This book is simple enough for a two year old to enjoy but still kept Miss 6 entertained. I have found out there is an earlier book in the series Bad Dog Flash which I am sure my children will love to read too.

My son went absolutely nuts for the first book Bad Dog Flash, he just absolutely loves it and we have to read it over and over again. He is only 2 but he can read Bad Dog Flash practically by himself as he knows the book off by heart. I just knew he would love this book Go Home Flash when I saw it appear on the KIWIreviews page so applied to review it straight away.

When the book arrived my son was so excited he recognised Flash straight away from the cover of the book, shouting out Bad Dog Flash and grabbing the book out of my hands. We sat down to read and he appeared confused by the fact I was reading different words to what he expected but he soon settled into the new tale of Flash and his shenanigans.

In this book Flash loves exploring outside the confines of his gate, finding new and mischievous ways to escape like jumping the fence and digging a hole under the fence, we found it really funny when he sneaked his way into the car, as our dog Chloe always tries to sneak her way into the car for a family drive. Naughty Flash gets into all sorts of bother but always finds someone telling him to Go Home Flash, sit flash, stay flash!!

Seemingly sad Flash hides away to dream of all the adventures he could have outside the gate, while his family look for him. He is soon found and off for a walk beyond the gate much to his delight!! Such a sweet story and done in a very similar styling to Bad Dog Flash with simple short sentences which are light and bouncy to read. This will be another book my boy will soon be able to read on his own. I didn't find it as good as Bad Dog Flash but it is a great book all the same and my boy thoroughly enjoyed it.

I know what we will be reading at bed time tonight already!! My boy can't get enough of the mischievous puppy Flash and I must admit I enjoy reading him these stories.
