Broken Skin product reviews

The third in the bestselling Logan McRae series, set in gritty Aberdeen, laced with dark humour. In the chill grey of an Aberdeen February violence is just around the corner! A serial rapist is leaving a string of tortured women behind him, but while DS Logan McRae's girlfriend, PC Jackie 'Ball Breaker' Watson, is out acting as bait, he's trying to identify a blood-drenched body dumped outside Accident and Emergency.

Logan's investigations suggest someone in the local bondage community has developed a taste for violent death, and he soon finds himself dragged into the twilight world of pornographers, sex-shops and S&M. Meanwhile, the prime suspect in the rape case turns out to be Aberdeen Football Club's star striker, and he has an alibi for every attack. Logan thinks they've got it horribly wrong, but can he get anyone to listen before the real rapist strikes again? Especially as Jackie is convinced the footballer's guilty and she's hell-bent on a conviction at any cost!

I was given some of the earlier books in this series, at first I thought that I wouldn't like it but was hooked after a few chapters in the first book. I love how each book has its own story and the main characters have their stories and pasts and you start to learn about them as you read the books.

How do you get away with rape? The public are behind the football "hero" and the police are fighting a losing battle or so it seems. Logan starts to doubt his girlfriend both personally and professionally.

Characters are very realistic and easy to relate to, both the police as they are trying to put a rapist behind bars and the public who want the criminal caught but don't want to believe loved ones could be guilty. How far would you go to protect your family/ loved ones? Would that include lying to the police?

Another mystery is what turns an 8 year old boy into a killer and police have to find a way to get the truth behind a delicate matter. As usual both cases are linked but you don't know how until near the end of the book, there are times that you want to be able to sit the characters down and point out what seems obvious but the police keep overlooking small details.
