This came at the perfect time - School holidays. The first week was not that bad because my husband took the week off but this second week has been a nightmare as all the girls seem to be doing is fighting and they are both unwell with the flu.

The book itself is actually aimed at kids for something to do with there "awesome" mum. But because my two are still a little young I have had to talk them through the different activities and explained what is necessary to do. Either way works really as even if you are older and can read by yourself it encourages you to do with the mum so it is nice to be able to sit down and agree on an activity together.

The book is set out in a neat way. The first section explains what the activity is, what you will need and the steps to finish the activity. There is a tip attached and on some a fun fact which is actually really neat I learnt some stuff. Such as Not all flowers will press well, the best flowers are thin, flat (with a single row of petals) and with a low water or nectar content. I did not know that I thought all flowers were the same so we pressed Daisies as that is what the picture showed.

There is stuff to do on a rainy day and a section on feng shui which is right up my alley and it was a neat reason for my daughter to clean out her drawers. I have to admit the last chapter is on 'Beach Daze' which does sound fun and looking forward to the warmer weather again.

Some of the activities are for older kids then mine but I think as a whole this book will be fantastic as the girls get older. Our next activity we are wanting to do is build a rock garden. It is really laid out well and so easy to understand. In the mean time just hoping our pressed flowers turn out well........

I received Awesome Kiwi Things to Do with Mum to review a couple of days before the start of the Easter holidays. What perfect timing. I was able to sit down with my girls (aged 4 and 5.5) and look through it for some ideas to cure holiday boredom. There is a variety of activities to do inside and outside and as a mum I didn't look at them and cringe which I expected I would for many of them.

This is a book you could read from cover to cover or just flick through and see what grabs your attention. There are enough pictures to get the young ones interested and it is quite easy reading for those that choose that method. It is broken up into five sections: In the backyard; Games; home sweet home; Stuff to do on rainy days; and beach daze so there is bound to be something to suit your mood.

Although my girls are younger than the intended readers there are still plenty of ideas that I can adapt for them. The main difference is of course that they aren't able to read it all themselves which would be something constructive for them to do. In case anyone was thinking that it was just activities that would appeal to girls and their mums there are plenty that would appeal to the boys too. The section that appealed to us all the most was the magic tricks. My girls love to put on shows so this was perfect for them.

I really liked that the materials needed were generally things that we had around the house so if they decided to make something they could. We didn't need to plan a trip to the shop first especially as lots of shops were closed over the Easter period. The best thing about this book is it encouraged us as a family to get away from the screens (whether it was TV, computer, tablet or phone) and spend quality time together.

This book is not just for Mum's and their kids but for grandparents, dads, aunts and uncles too. It would be great to flick through at the start of every holiday for suggestions on what to do together. Even if you don't do something in this book it is a great place to start and you will be sure to come up with more ideas.
