Make cake decorations YUMMMMMY!
Scolpt is a new re-moldable modelling chocolate. Works like Icing, still tastes like chocolate... This rainbow pack saves the need to buy a whole packet of each colour.
This icing paste is made out of chocolate, so it still tastes like chocolate! You can make anything out of this for cakes or for a rainy day activity for children. With it being pre-coloured you no longer have to walk around with stained hands for 3 days after making a cake. And the best thing about Scolpt modelling chocolate - unlike fondant which sets crusty and cannot be reworked - if you don't like something you've made simply warm it up in your fingers again and rework it! This is the easiest stuff to use, full instructions are included on the packaging.
See our facebook page for ideas of what can be made out of this great product. Check out our Blogsite with great hints and tips for using scolpt.
NOTE: For some reason, our website store likes to delegate our rainbow packs to a default colour of black - ignore this, as you will still get a rainbow pack when ordering.
• This rainbow pack contains 10 colours and weighs 210g.
• Keeps for up to 12 months.
• Made in NZ.
• Available via the website or at cake supply shops throughout New Zealand.
Product reviews...
I have been looking at Scolpt for a long time, coveting it's modelling chocolate goodness. I wasn't entirely sure what I would do with it, but I thought it would be a great new kitchen toy for me to play with. Getting a rainbow pack was absolutely brilliant because it gave me a chance to experiment more fully with the combo of colours and to make all sorts of shapes and things.
The first thing I did was try and follow the instructions for a high heel shoe. My effort as a first go was not too bad, but it was a little on the wonky side. I put it aside and it's in good nick even now after a fortnight. I also used a PlayDoh mould set on some of the Scolpt. I was able to push the pliable chocolate dough into the moulds and came out with an excellent dinosaur and teddy bear as well.
The next time I played with this, I made some letters to add to my sugar cookies for Christmas. The letters marked out where we would each sit at the table for dinner. Everyone loved their cookies and they helped dress up the table nicely. Today, I finally managed to drag my daughter away from Minecraft for a bit of dough craft in the lounge.
I told her the dough was edible, but not what it was. We sat down and she made a kiwi first, then a giraffe and lastly a blue fish. She then started making all sorts of bugs. Lastly she started to design a game with goodies and baddies, depending on the eye colour. It sounded like it was going to be a good game, especially because you had to kill the baddies by eating them. I asked her what it tasted like and she said it was icing. When I told her it wasn't she was confused and couldn't place the taste. She was super excited when she learnt it was modelling chocolate.
While she was busy eating all the baddies, I started to make minis of all our family. I made my eldest daughter, then myself followed by my husband and toddler. It was a fun thing to do and they'll make an excellent personalised dessert one night. Thanks so much for letting me try out this cool product. I would absolutely buy this again when I have birthdays coming up. It's so easy to use and it's easy to get an effective look. A bit of practice and I got better and better.
When it comes to decorating cakes and cupcakes I'm a pull apart some biscuits and lollies kinda person so I was eager to give this a try and quite excited when I heard that we would be getting some Scolpt to review.
I've never been good at sculpting things with my hands, I made some neat dinos back when I was bout eight years old but I'm still pretty certain that that was a fluke. My first attempt with this was to just make some basic letters for the kids and us adults, so basic that it was just a D, M, H, I, J, Z, P, M, S, which was perfect for me as a beginner. I only used 1cm of each colour per letter, making a letter almost 2cm high and thick enough so as not to break apart. The one thing I noticed was that it tasted nicer before I did all the shaping with it.
The next mission I decided to involve the kids with and I baked two banana cakes. I gave the kids a centimetre of each colour to fiddle with and myself a little bit extra for my attempts. My 4 year old had fun just mushing them together to see the combinations of colours, my 6 year old decided to make a bird and then write a letter into the remaining bits of scolpt that he had. For my cake I went with a Christmas theme and carved letters into it, made a reindeer, star, heart and christmas tree. Not bad I must say.
With a bit more practice I can see myself improving, this was fun, almost no mess at all and if there were crumbs left... well the kids happily ate them up. I'm pretty sure that I would buy this in the future, but right now I still have half a pack waiting for me. :)
Like many others I was very excited to put my hand up to try out Scolpt Modelling chocolate, however unlike many of the others, I admit to having never heard of Scolpt modelling chocolate previously. Before I put my application for review in, I did a little research to see what I was getting myself into. A browse of the Scolpt facebook page also and I could not wait to apply. And I was super excited when I was one of those selected to review.
The rainbow pack, containing 10 sticks of modelling chocolate, keeps up to 12months in a cool dry place. It arrived in a simple bag with simple labelling. I was surprised the bag was not re-sealable, as thought for a product you could keep for so long, re-sealable bag would be a good idea. However, in saying that, the stocks of modelling chocolate are only small, and depending on what one is wanting to create, it would not last that long.
The modelling chocolate is made usable by warming up in ones hands, once warmed it is like playing with play-dough. It was noted that if you handled it to long it would become sticky from use, so you either have to work quickly, or if it becomes sticky, pop it aside until it begins to firm up again. It is very easy to work with, and to model into any shape. I had a small go making a snow-man, but my children were so taken by it, they took over
My children are aged 7, 12 and 13 years. They spent quite a long time making and creating little models to go on top of a bunch of cupcakes that they also made and iced themselves. They created many different things from milk containers, and crocodiles, to rainbows, fruit and veges, they even made pac man and the ghost. I was very impressed at the amazing job they each did. But I guess as children play with play-dough through out their years, and the modelling chocolate (although much yummier) is a lot like play-dough its easy to see why they had no trouble making and decorating.
I love that this product is easy to prepare for use, fun and easy to use, suitable for all ages, NZ made and stores for so long. I love that the colours are bright, and when you complete a sculpture they look absolutely amazing. The taste is nice, but not something I would eat a huge amount of, so I would stick to small sculptures for use on cupcakes personally, if I knew I was to eat it, but I would not make anything substantially huge unless it was for someone else lol Don't get me wrong, it tastes good...but ya just do not need heaps.
All in all this is a really great product, its a lot of fun, and wonderful for teaching kids imagination, learning, hand eye coordination, as well as baking and safe kitchen, and good hygiene skills and this appealed to me as well as the fact the product is awesome. Its a really great product and a lot of fun!! two thumbs up from all of us.
I have tried Scolpt nearly two years ago and loved it so leapt at the chance to have another play with it. With a rainbow pack of 10 colours there was so many things I could make. As Jopukeko the first thing I made was a pukeko. This is where I learnt the hard way that you should shape your lighter colours first. I started with the blue and black and by the time I went to use the white my fingers were stained (thankfully a stain that washes off easily).
I sat down with my homebased carekids to have a play. I told them it was a special play dough. The other kids panicked when my toddler put it straight in his mouth. When they saw that I was fine with him eating it the challenge was then keeping them playing rather than eating it themselves. They soon discovered that if their hand were sticky (from licking them) that the Scolpt became very sticky. My preschoolers all found it very hard to get the Scolpt pliable but once I had done that for them they enjoyed making ball and smashing them flat. They also discovered that they could mix two colours together to create a marbled effect or if the keep playing with it they created a new shade.
When I first tried Scolpt it was in winter and I found the chocolate was much harder than it was on a hot December day. In winter I had to soften it for a few seconds in the microwave, whereas in summer the heat of my hands was enough. The other difference I found between the Scolpt was in winter the colours didn't stick together in the pack. In summer where the different colours touched bits had stuck. This meant I had to cut the mixed bits off with a sharp knife so I had a clean colour.
Where Scolpt really excels over other cake decorating mediums is the taste. Let's face if fondant looks great but the taste is blah. Scolpt as my team to preschool assistants will tell you is rainbow chocolate play dough. They all ate every little crumb. Every colour tastes the same like a chewy white chocolate except the brown one which is more like milk chocolate. Scolpt is very malleable but holds its shape very well. I found it was easy to etch detail into while it was still soft with a skewer or knife. It was best to store your masterpieces in the fridge to harden up. They can be made well in advance of the special occasion.
I have told lots of friends about Scolpt and will continue to do so when I get praise for my kids' birthday cakes.
I love cake decorating and making cupcakes and making little toppers with it. In the past I have always used fondant which looks good but tastes gross. When the chance to review scolpt came up I jumped at the chance. I was very excited when my rainbow pack turned up and I couldn't wait to rip into it and give it ago.
With Christmas fast approaching I decided to make some Christmas themed cupcake toppers. I also really wanted to try a minion and as the instructions looked easy I decided to start with that. Scolpt is designed to work with your body heat and all it takes is a few minutes rolling it in your hand. Once warmed you have wonderful pliable dough to work with. Its so easy to make into any shape you can dream of. With Fondant I find I have to use a food glue to get the different parts to stick together not with scolpt. Simply run a warm finger along any join and it all sticks together.
The one thing I did find was being quite a warm night when I was trying it out that if I worked with a bit for too long it got far too soft. It was easy solved though I just put the soft stuff aside for a few minutes and worked on another bit. I also recommend making sure you start with the light colours first as with the darker colours you do get a little on your hand so you can't go from dark to light colours without washing your hands first.
I really recommend Scolpt to anyone who wants to add a little extra to their cakes or cupcakes. It's great for any age group too because of how easy it is to work with (once it was soft it reminded me of playdough). It would be a great school holiday project for kids. I plan to take my leftovers to my niece as I know she will love creating all sorts of goodies with it :)
My mum got a packet of Scolpt modelling chocolate to review from KIWIreviews and us kids got half the packet to try out. We had to make muffin toppers for on top of some muffins that we also made. The packet is 10 different colours of chocolate icing to work with, which is really cool. But it would be better if the packet was one that could seal closed if you didn't use it all.
So the idea is to warm this stuff up in your hands and then it is soft to work with but you do have to work fast because if you don't, then it gets a bit sticky and is a bit harder to work with. It would be cool if the packet come with a couple of small tool type things that you could use for smoothing out, rounding or whatever, because I couldn't find anything here small enough to help when trying to get the icing off my hands.
I had a lot of fun with this, and made a milk container with green lid which I really thought was cool. I also made a pacman and ghost, a banana and apple, and some other things. It is a bit fiddly but it is really fun. It tastes good to but because I am not a big fan of chocolate and sweet stuff I would not eat a lot of it, but I would like to practice more and make more with it and it is cheap enough that I could. I would like to be a chef one day, and this was fun to work with, and so mum is going to get me more of it before Christmas.
I was excited to get a packet of this to review I love cake decorating although I am not the best at it I love it anyway. I will always prefer to make my kids cakes even if they are not perfect at least they can say my Mum made that, not 100% sure they will always thank me for that though lol. I haven't had a lot of experience working with fondant for cake decorating although have done a couple of cakes with it so it is all kind of new to me.
I figured this would be a lot like working with fondant, and it did turn out to be pretty much the same. The trick with this is to warm/soften it up in your hands before you start working with so that it is easily mouldable. My 11 year old was a lot better at the 'scolpting' than me and made some cool creations, she kept telling me it is just like making things with Clay mum but I guess she has a better artistic ability than I do myself :). If you play with the chocolate for too long it does get a bit too soft and sticky but you can put it aside and let it harden up again for a while which I found quite handy.
The other thing I found useful in using this was to line a chopping board or plate with glad wrap as when working straight onto surfaces it would stick. It does suggest using a silicon tray but we didn't have one so glad wrap did the trick! We made a range of cupcake toppers we started off with the idea to make Christmas themed toppers but as we went along we did end up making un-themed items too like a teddy bear, a strawberry and a pig. Our creations (especially mine) weren't perfect but we had so much fun and I really think it is a great activity to do with children.
I liked this rainbow pack with all the different colours as it meant you weren't limited in colour choices, but I would love to have a play with bigger packs of individual colours for things like birthday cakes as the individual coloured bars aren't big enough to make your creations too big. I thought it would of been cool if the packet was resealable for when you had finished working with it so you could store it for another day but this wasn't a huge issue as I had some glad bags that I popped it in too to keep in the cupboard.
I also put our creations in a glad bag to store for a couple of days until we made the cupcakes for them to go on and they stored really well. When we took them out of the glad bag they were still in one piece and hadn't gone all dry and yucky. I thought this was great as it means you can make your creations in advance when you are having a party so you are not doing everything all at once.
Overall I loved this product and so did my children so I would definitely buy it again another day to make cakes with the children, but I think I would also prefer to use this over fondant when making the kids birthday cakes but it simply tastes so much better than fondant! My children loved the taste and ate the whole of the cupcake toppers whereas with fondant they usually pick it off and just eat the cupcakes so the chocolate sure was a winner for my children. A great product and I look forward to using it more in the future.
